I recently finished my Halo: Combat Guide, and I just love writing FAQs, so I decided to do this. It's full of great info to help you beat the game, and beat your friends. If you don't know how my very good searching system works, simply put in the letter and number combonation after the part you want to see. e.g: Open your search box (Ctrl+F) then enter the section you want to find (let's say Controls), then put in A12, hit enter twice, and you're there! Amped is a snowboaring game and ONLY for the Xbox. In my opinion it's one of the best snowboarding games I've ever played. It has many different challenges to do. The only bad thing about it is that...I think it should have more rail tricks. It's a great game, so I've decided to do an FAQ/Walkthrough on it. One more thing, be sure you know what all the tricks are if you're using the Walkthough, I use the terms in there, so be sure you know how to use them! ======================================================================= Legal Stuff This document is Copyright 2002-2003 by Justin Phill. You cannot copy any or part of this FAQ and give yourself credit for it (if you want to use any of it please e-mail me). If you want to post it on your website, tell me and I'll give you an answer. I don't want to see this anywhere else EXCEPT the websites listed below, this includes video game magazines or other such publishings (unless I get a rather large sum of money for it...:p). If you bought this guide, you were tricked into paying and should contact the police immediately. Thanks, and enjoy the FAQ. ======================================================================= Contact Information Name: Justin Phill E-Mail: solidsnake122@msn.com Please entitle the subject of your e-mail "Amped FAQ" or something along those lines, if it's anything else I will *RARELY* answer, I may think it's just junk mail and delete it (my e-mail is getting flooded with junk, so I'm being a lot more serious on that). I also don't want any hate mail. It will be deleted very quickly, after a response of some sort. I get enough e-mail, so please get this right. Thanks. ======================================================================== Newest Version Version 0.97 (10/11/03): Big update here. Since I had no internet for the last while, I got some done. New school too, so much homework (I have 3 projects due in a few weeks, and 4 tests next week). I'll try to do as much as I can on the weekends. I'll finish the Gear Section (3.0) after the walkthrough and the Becoming a Pro sections are done, so don't worry that 3.0 isn't there. Finished next couple of parts in the Walkthrough, updated Contact Information. ======================================================================== Version History Version 0.1 (11/15/02): Just started the FAQ. I finished up to Section 1.3. Version 0.2 (11/16/02): Beating the game a second time while doing this walkthrough is fun! I finished all of Section 1 and the walkthrough part for Brighton 1, but I can't do the Pro Challenges yet, so I'm doing Snow Summit, I haven't beat it in my game's FAQ-JP file, which I'm doing step-by-step with my FAQ. Doing the second Snow Summit 1 sponsor now. Version 0.3 (11/17/02): I finished up to the end of Brighton 2. I may be getting Metal Gear Solid 2 for the Xbox, so this FAQ might be delayed in about 3 weeks. Version 0.4 (11/19/02): Oh god, I screwed up my FAQ pretty bad, thank god it got posted, otherwise I don't know what I would have done. I have to save it off the site and fix it up (which took half an hour) because it wasn't wrapped the way I had it. Oh well, it's fine now. Decided to add info about each run too, which lists basically what each run is like. Version 0.5 (12/03/02): Fell behind for a bit, probably because I was bet that if I could stay on the computer for 2 hours a day max, I could get a new game (MGS2: Substance), but I finished up some snowmen. Version 0.6 (12/10/02): Finally I rented MGS2 for the Xbox, so I'm happy, and ready to work on my FAQ again. I added a "Points per Mood Bar" for the Sponsor Challenges, just giving myself more work to do, but It'll make my FAQ better. If you want to see more on this, go to the Walkthrough part (B11), it's in the "My format" part. Finished up to the Pro of Stratton 1. Version 0.7 (12/12/02): Got a new e-mail account since my old one was screwed up. solidsnake122@msn.com, it's kinda like my old one....well, anyway, I finished up to (and finishing) the Pro 1 of Alitbahn, almost done the Walkthrough.... Version 0.8 (12/14/02): Finished most of the Alitbahn 1 Explore Challenge, added some new sites my FAQs posted on. Version 0.9 (12/16/02): Pretty close to finishing the Walkthrough, I'm on the 4th last level. I want to hopefully finish the Walkthrough by Christmas, but I might not. I got an e-mail that said from a person (if you read this and want your name here, say so) "...I bought the Official Amped Guide for 10 bucks from the store, and I wasted my money, the material in your FAQ is much better..." That's why I write FAQs, to make a difference, help, and save people money. Fixed a critical error, I added a bunch of clothing to the Promotion from Local to Shop rider, I put them in their normal spots. I finished the Sponsor of SlopeStyle, and am starting just after that. Version 0.91 (12/18/02): It's getting close to Christmas, so I want to get the walkthrough finished, but Version I wanted when the Walkthrough was finished is to be 1.0 (is that confusing?), so that's why it's 0.91 instead of 1.0. Finished to up to most of the SlopeStyle Explore Challenge, fixed a few mistakes, and added the Newest Version section. Version 0.92 (12/31/02): Did you all miss me? Sorry I haven't updated for a while, but it's the holidays, and I'd like to enjoy them. I got a lot of new games for Christmas, so I've been playing them, and I lent Amped to one of my friends for a few days. I have some new stuff (FAQs, some new tips after watching 2 of my friends struggle) in this update, but not a lot. Expect to see lots of new stuff soon. Version 0.93 (?/?/03): Lalala, out of the holiday mood and back into the FAQ writing mood. All is well, I've just been playing the new games I've got for Christmas. I might start another Walkthrough soon, so if there are any delays (there shouldn't), it's because of that. I fixed my Legal Stuff, that's very important...it made it seem you can e-mail me and take credit for my work. AHHH! **IMPORTANT** I forgot that the guides should be "No wrap". Version 0.94 (03/10/03): I wasn't gone too long, was I? I hope not....I don't like keeping people waiting :) Sorry I couldn't finish the Walkthrough this time, but I'm getting close. I WOULD have finished, but it turns out we're going to Hawaii tomorrow (yay). No more snow! Well, I do have most of the Pro 2 Challenges done, hopefully that will keep you happy until about April when I get back! Just keep in mind that I've got school, friends, and a life to uphold when you're begging me for an update. I'm not being mean, it's just sometimes I don't feel like writing. But don't worry, I'll finish it soon....just be patient. (The preceding statement was forged from many e-mails and message board posts). Oh yeah, and sorry, I couldn't pry myself from Diablo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2....that's another reason...heh...heh... Version 0.95 (04/09/03): All right, I'm done with ANY OTHER GAME I'm playing, just to finish this. The life of an FAQ Writer is not an easy one. People e-mailing you about this and that, telling you to update. All I can do is tell you to be patient. Anyway....I finished all the Pro 2 Challenges up to SlopeStyle, along with the Explore Challenges, expect more within the next 3 days. If you've sent in contributions, I'm not adding any more until the FAQ is done. Enjoy! Version 0.96 (05/16/03): Hello again everyone! Hopefully you haven't been too desperate for me....:) Is it just me, or do the dividers not go all the way to the end, because it's bugging me and I don't know why. E-mail me with suggestions for it, thanks. Anyway, I finished up to the Snow Summit 2 Media Challenges, which are done, now I'll be working on the rest of it. I'm sending this one, just in case come people are getting desperate. This FAQ will be finished soon, I guarantee it. ======================================================================= Table of Contents Section 1.0: The Basics A11 1.1: Controls A12 1.1.1: Main Menu A13 1.2: Tricks A14 -Tweaks A15 -"Jibs" (Grinds) A16 1.3: Creating Your Rider A17 1.4: Stats A18 -Spin A19 -Jump A20 -Balance A21 -Speed A22 -Switch A23 1.5: Starting your Career A24 -Beginner Tips A25 -Getting points A26 -The Media A27 -Challenge Types A28 Section 2.0: Walkthrough B11 -Brighton 1 B12 -Snow Summit 1 B13 -Gunny's Gulch B14 -Brighton 2 B15 -Stratton 1 B16 -Altibahn 1 B17 -Slope Style B18 -Snow Summit 2 B19 -Stratton 2 B20 -Altibahn 2 B21 -Nixon JibFest B22 Section 3.0: Your Gear C11 3.1: Clothing C12 -Hats C13 -Goggles C14 -Jackets/Sweaters C15 -Pants C16 3.2: Snowboards C17 -Normal C18 -"Pro" Boards C19 3.3: Boots C20 3.4: Bindings C21 Section 4.0: Becoming a Pro D11 4.1: Trick Combos D12 4.2: Suit your Style (picking your gear) D13 4.3: Advanced Moves D14 4.4: 100 000+ pt. moves D15 4.4.1: Can you beat me? I've gone through countless times of going downhill to get you these tricks so you don't have to take up your valuable time. Here's the list: **SIDE NOTE** Depending on wether you pick Goofy or Regular, you'll get different tricks when you are riding, you seem to get MORE points if you do a trick on the opposite side you ride on. So, if you picked Regular when making your character, look at the regular moves, if you pick Goofy, look at the Goofy moves. These are all mid-air buttons: X: Regular: Stalefish Goofy: Melon Double Tap (Regular):(X, then X right after) Melon Double Tap (Goofy): Stalefish Y: Regular: Indy Goofy: Mute Double Tap (Regular): Mute Double Tap (Goofy): Indy A: Regular: Tail Goofy: Nose Double Tap (Regular): Nose Double Tap (Goofy): Tail Left Joystick Up: Front Flip Left Joystick Down: Back Flip Left Joystick Up-Left or Up-Right: Corkscrew (gives A LOT of points) Left Joystick Down-Left or Down-Right: Rodeo (gives A LOT of points) For the Corkscrew and Rodeo, you can do them with the D-Pad, it's just they're a lot harder to pull off. If you use the Right Joystick you can't do the double taps (I've tried, if you want to prove me wrong, go try), so try to get used to using these 3 buttons. **SIDE NOTE**: When you are going "uphill" it will say "Go downhill!", when it says this, you cannot get any points until you go downhill and that message disappears. ======================================================================= Tweaks A15 ======================================================================= So you've mastered the basic moves, now what you ask? It's time to start tweaking your moves! I'm not talking about getting your moves down so you're unbeatable, I mean making new moves with the Triggers. For this part, I'm just going to list the move, and tell you the 3 tweaks you can do. Stalefish: Left Trigger: Tweaked Stalefish Right Trigger: Stinky Stalefish Both Triggers: Rocket Stalefish Melon: Left Trigger: Palm Right Trigger: Crooked Cop Both Triggers: Method Indy: Left Trigger: Crooked Indy Right Trigger: Indy Nose Poke Both Triggers: Indy Nose Bone Mute: Left Trigger: Mute Palm Right Trigger: FS Mute Both Triggers: Japan Tail: Left Trigger: Nose Poke Right Trigger: Shifty Both Triggers: Nose Bone Nose: Left Trigger: Tail Poke Right Trigger: Shifty Both Triggers: Tail Bone All right, there you go, all the moves you can do, but that's not all... ======================================================================= "Jibs" (Grinds) A16 ======================================================================= There is, of course, plenty of air moves, but what about all those poor, poor, un"jibbed" rails and boxes out there? They have a few tricks to do on those too! Here are the different grinds you can do: When board is parallel (same way) as rail: 50-50 When board is perpendicular (opposite way) as rail: Boardslide When you press Up and B: Nose press When you press Down and B: Tail press **SIDE NOTE** The 50-50 and Boardslide are MUCH easier to balance than the presses, but the presses give off more points. Try to use a little press at the beginning of your grind to get points, then go back to a normal grind by hitting B. (So if you were doing a nose press and wanted to get out of it, hit B!). ======================================================================= 1.3: Creating Your Rider A17 ======================================================================= The best part about the game is creating your own rider (well, doing the actual game is fun, but this is great too...). You can choose the clothes he/she wears, the gear they use, and even their face! After doing the appearance, you get to put on some skills. While you're making your own rider, I'm going to make my own too, his name will be FAQ-JP, it's up to you what you are going to call your rider. Enough of this intro talk, let's make the rider! I'll do this screen by screen. First, you have to give your rider a name. The name doesn't really matter, but in the end, that name is going to be the #1 Rider in the World, so choose carefully. Next, you get 5 attribute points to spread around. You can put them on Spin, Jump, Balance, Speed and Switch. I'll go into more detail in the section involving skills, but here's the basic thing: Spin: The more points, the faster you spin (my #1 Rider can easily do a 900, even a 1080!). Spinning is good. Jump: The more points, the higher you jump. The more air you get, the bigger your combos can get and you have more time to spin and do tricks! Balance: The more points, the longer you can balance on a rail. Speed: The more points, the faster you go. This is good for getting speed for big air. Switch: I find this one pretty useless, it allows you to ride better on the opposite stance (Regular or Goofy). Put the 5 skills on to best suit how you think you're going to play! Then we'll continue on. After that we get to pick what our character looks like! You will have one garmet of clothing from each of the companies in the game (except for the hats part, you automatically have all of them). So pick the character's face, coat, pants, goggles, and hat, then let's move on. **SIDE NOTE** There are 3 types of hats, Milos, Bandanas, and Beanies, hit Left to see them. Next, we get to pick the gear. Each board affects different attributes on your boarder (which I will list later). So pick one that you think will do you best until I get that section done. Pick your board, will will affect your stats (a little, it will improve them, not remove them), and the Boots and Binding don't matter now (they will affect your stats later when you unlock new kinds), then pick your stance. After that, you're done, and can start doing Challenges!! (I'll cover this in the Walkthrough section) ======================================================================= 1.4: Stats A18 ======================================================================= The fun part about the game is that you can get certain stats to customize your rider to suit your playing style. Each one does something different. In the previous section (1.3), I briefly told you what each one does, now I will go in-depth for you. ======================================================================= Spin: A19 Spin can be one of the most valuable attributes. It allows you to spin faster in mid-air. The more you spin, the more points you get. If you use this in a combo with other moves (e.g: 720 Stalefish), you will get a lot of points. Now, if you do a 900 Corkscrew and Mute Palm, that's a whole lot of points. (More on Combos later) ======================================================================= Jump: A20 Jump is just as important as Spin. This attribute allows you to jump higher, allowing you to get more air for tricks (and jump longer distances and to get to high up hard to reach places). If you have maxed out Spin, but no jump, it's not going to help you at all. Jump is VERY important. ======================================================================= Balance: A21 Balance lets you "jib" for longer. It is also good because you can do the Presses for quite a while. The most stat points on this, the longer you will go (and this combined with a huge air trick means tons of points!). Balance is good if you like to do air-to-rail combos, or just like rails. ======================================================================= Speed: A22 The more points here, the faster you go. The faster you go, the more air you can get as well. But the bad thing is this will make your time on the rails a lot shorter too. If you like doing lots of huge air combos, put your points here (but don't forget Spin and Jump). If you like staying on rails for a long time, don't put too many points here (it doesn't matter how many you put for LONG rails, if you stay on for too long, you'll fall off!). ======================================================================= Switch: A23 I find this stat fairly useless (if you don't agree, send me a reason!), it simply allows you to ride faster and turn better on the opposite stance (Regulars will ride better on Switch, Goofys will ride better on Normal). I don't see the point, you can just pull the Left Trigger to do this (or Right). Put some on here, sometimes it comes in handy! ======================================================================= In my opinion, here are the stats from most important to least important: 1: Jump 2: Spin 3: Speed 4: Balance 5: Switch It could vary for you, if you like riding the rails, Balance would be 3 and Speed would be 4. It all depends on what your style is. ======================================================================= 1.5: Starting your Career A24 ======================================================================= Well, you've created your character, and ready to hit the slopes, right? Yeah, you are, but here are some things that you should know and could help you a lot! ======================================================================= Beginner Tips A25 ======================================================================= You have to start somewhere don't you? Everyone is a Beginner at one point or another, and every Beginner can use a tip or two from a more experienced player, can't they? They can, and here's some that will help you get points on your first runs (some Veterans may find some of these useful too)! -Don't push it! What this means is that you shouldn't overdo your tricks. Don't spin longer than you think you should, don't hold your grabs until the last second, don't grind so long you fall off, things like that. Learn to judge your tricks, and you'll find you'll crash less each time. -DON'T HOLD A DURING A TRICK!! Unless you want to do a Nose or Tail anyway. This isn't Tony Hawk or any other game like that where A isn't a trick! A is a trick here, so don't hold it unless you're doing a Nose or Tail. -DON'T HOLD A WHEN GOING AGAINST A PRO (all the time anyway) Pros sometimes do tricks close together (there are a few), especially after big jumps sometimes. Don't hold A until you are getting fairly close to the jump. -Try some small rail combos. When you're on a rail, jump off and try doing a 360, then land back on it, this is a combo. It will bring in more points than just simply grinding! Try rail combos whenever you can. -Vary your tricks. Don't do the same trick over and over again, it's worth less and less points every time. Try mixing up the X and Y (maybe A) buttons for different tricks. Remember, there are 5 tricks with every button (that's with the tweaks by the way), so you have plenty to work with. -Learn the big point moves. Corkscrews and Rodeos are great ways to bring in points, especially when combined with other tricks like Mutes and Stalefish. A 720 Corkscrew and Mute is worth over 10,000 points! Learn these tricks as early on as you can, and you'll soon be making huge combos. -Jump at the top of the jump. Just as you're about to go off a jump, JUMP! This will give you alot of air (make sure your not going over though). As you know (if you don't, now you do) big air gives you a lot of trick time. These should help most beginners out, maybe even some veterans. If I can think of any more, I'll put them up, or if someone sends some in too... ======================================================================= Getting Points A26 ======================================================================= Getting points are easy. But getting a lot of points isn't. Here are a couple of ways to get some huge points off just a few button presses. -Air-to-Rail These combos give off a heck of a lot of points. Especially if your air move is worth a lot of points in the first place. If you do a Nose or Tail press after a huge air combo onto a rail, you'll get a lot of points. With the Media you get even more.... -Big Jumps Most of the jumps go at about a 45 degree angle, which will launch you far into the air and get you some good air time. There are some really steep ones that will give you lots of air, but no distance. If there is a 45 degree jump going down a mountain, you'll have major air time. -Rails There are 3 kinds of rails: Short, Medium and Long. When just starting out, the Long rails aren't going to do you any good (you don't have any points on balance yet), so stick with the Short and Medium. The longer you stay on a rail, the better chance you have of falling off, but you get a lot more points. -Mix up your moves in the air. If you just do a Stalefish in the air, your not going to get a lot of points. Now, if you do a Stalefish with a Mute, then do a 360 Corkscrew, you're going to get a lot more points, aren't you? That's a combo, learn how to do them, or you're not going to get anywhere in this game. (More on Combos later) This should do it for now. If you have any other BASIC ways of getting points, send 'em in! ======================================================================= The Media A27 ======================================================================= The media is represented by a Red Camera Icon above or beside a jump or rail. When you do a trick near a Media person, the screen will turn into a video camera-like view. Doing a trick near the Media greatly increases the score for your moves. So let's say you were doing a trick worth about 20,000 points, ok? Well, if you were to do it near the Media, it would go up to over 30,000 points. I'm still trying to figure out how many points the Media gives you, if I ever get it, I'll put it right here. So do your tricks by the Media when you can, you'll get a lot more points! ======================================================================= Challenge Types A28 ======================================================================= There are basically 5 different challenge types: High Score Challenge (each one advances you 1 World Rank): In this, you have to beat a certain high score, which is displayed on the Loading screen, and the in game Challenges screen. Your current score is displayed on the top left corner of the screen. Once you have reached the High Score for the Challenge, it will say right in the middle of the screen, High Score Challenge Complete (or something like that), then you will hear applause, and you can try for the next one. Media Score Challenge (each one advances you 1 World Rank): Pretty much like the High Score challenge, but this time it only counts Media points, which are displayed in the top-right corner of the screen. Remember, you can only get Media points by tricking near the Media people. Sponsor Challenge (each one advances you 1 World Rank): You have a "Amped" meter up top, and your goal is to get your Sponsor into the Amped mood by the end of the run. The meter increases when you do a trick the Sponsor likes, and if it isn't what they like, it better be one good trick. When you crash or do a trick they hate, it will go down. If they are Amped at the end of the run, you complete the challenge and get some new clothing. Pro Challenge (each one advances you 1 World Rank): You get to ride with a pro, but your goal is to beat them. The circles are where they jump, and they are color coded for different amounts of points as follows: Easy Trick (Green): 5,000 pts. or less Medium Trick (Blue): 5,000-10,000 pts. Hard Trick (Orange): 10,000-20,000 pts. Crazy Trick (Red): 20,000+ pts. The pro's trick score is displayed in the top right corner of the screen, you have to beat that score. You must start your trick in the circle, otherwise it doesn't count. If you don't get enough points, crash, or miss the circle, you get a strike. 3 strikes and you're out! A good tactic for pro challenges is to not hold A or Foward the whole time, as sometimes they will do tricks one after another. Just build up speed when you are getting close to the jump. Don't forget to follow the green path, that's where the pro goes. Explore Challenge (find all 8 snowmen and you advance 1 World Rank): When you hear weird noises, it's the snowmen. Hit them and you will kill them, getting you one of the eight hidden in the level. I'm not entirely sure on each location, but I'll find them all again, just for the sake of the FAQ! ======================================================================= Section 2.0: Walkthrough B11 ======================================================================= All right, here it is, the biggest part of the FAQ, the Walkthrough. I'll take you through every challenge in the game until you are Rank #1 in the world! I will also tell you any rewards you get after each challenge. This is my format for the Walkthrough: Name of Place (e.g: Brighton 1) Runs High Score Challenge # - How many points you need to beat it Difficulty Rating Tips on how to beat it Media Score Challenge # - How many points you need to beat it Difficulty Rating Tips on how to beat it Sponsor Challenge # - What the Sponsor likes Difficulty Rating How to do what the Sponsor likes/Tips What you win Pro Challenge #: Who it is (how to unlock) Difficulty Rating Trick # + Points Tips on how to beat it What you win Explore Challenge Location of Snowmen 1-8 (I will also tell the run to find each one) My difficulty Rating system (so far): Cakewalk: This is TOO easy, you shouldn't have a problem. WAY too Easy: Really, really easy, shouldn't be hard. Super Easy: Not hard at all. Easy: Not too hard, but still somewhat of a challenge. Easy-Medium: Not that easy, but not quite Medium. Medium: Not too easy, not too hard. Medium-Hard: More hard than Medium, should be a Challenge. Hard: You'll probably have a tough time with this. Hard-Very Hard: This one is tough man! Very Hard: This one requires a lot of practice, and patience! Impossible: You can't beat it (don't worry, this is EASILY fixed) **SIDE NOTE**: After watching my friend struggle through some of the levels, these ratings are after you've practiced your moves a bit, and can pull off some pretty OK combos and stuff. Keep this in mind if you find something too hard. That's my format, now enjoy. ======================================================================= Brighton 1 B12 ======================================================================= |
