The things after the mark are when you don't. Anything without the mark is applicable to both. The Basics This game is pretty simple. You want to score more than your opponents do. Here is a list of basic tactics to help: Guard, Spin, and Shoot-As you approach your opponent, set up the turbo. Then spin. As you spin, push the guard puck. You will get both stick check and body check protection. After this, shoot into the goal. Loop Around-Take a loop around your opponent's goal, and when you get back to the front, shoot to the corner where you are not. The goalie will not be expecting this. The One Timer-Loop around the goal again, but pass it as you finish the trip, and the second your teammate gets it, make him shoot. This is a one timer, and is very hard to block. Through the Board-When your opponent has the puck, get him close to the boards, and body check him. If you are in the right place, he will go through the glass, and will need a few extra seconds to get back in. This lets you have a short but sweet advantage on him. The Fire Blaze-This happens when your player scores three goals. His skills go way up. You can have a huge advantage over an opponent with this player. To extinguish the fire, the opposing team must score, or beat your player in a fight. The Team Blaze-You need to score three unanswered one timers. This boosts the entire team at once. In order to extinguish this one, you need to score a one timer. The Fake Shot-To do this, you have to hit the shoot button, and the second the stick is all the way in the air, press B and the shot will be faked. This is a very good thing to do. The Fake Shot Pass-Do the same thing, just press A instead of B, and you will pass. This can be followed up with a one timer. The Modes: In this game, there are several modes of play. The first is the exhibition. You play the game for credits. The difficulty of the players depends on what they were set to. At the end, there is a trivia question. If you answer it right, you will get a certain amount of credits, depending on how hard the question was. True or False questions are always 30 credits. The next mode is the championship mode. You must use a team for 30 games. If you win them all, you win the Stanley Cup. It deposits 4000 credits into the bank. The difficulty will increase throughout it, though. I suggest practicing with a really bad team verse a really good team in exhibition mode, and try to beat the good team. If you can, do it some more and then take a good team to championship mode and see how you do. Franchise mode is the hardest. You must create a team with the create a team option. I suggest using your attribute points on the top three players, giving them even points. Make two of the players the tallest, and set all of their body attributes to the maximum. This enables good checking. Every game you beat in this mode gives you 6 more points for your players. Remember to boost up all the players, not just 3. The trivia gives you extra points, too. Beating the franchise mode deposits 5000 credits into the bank. The skills mode is when you try to prove yourself in a certain skill. It goes from targets to checking. Each time you beat a difficulty level, a new difficulty level is available. The Pro Tactics The Triple Timer-Get three of your players lined up at your opponents goal in the shape of a triangle. Have one pass to another, who passes to the next, who then one times it. This is a more difficult one timer, both for your opponent, and yourself. It is very hard to block, though. In ASCII: !---------! ! O ! !p3 \p2 ! ! \P1/ ! P=Player /=Puck path \=puck path O=goalie !---------! The Fake Triple Timer-Do the same thing, but have player 3 do a fake shot, a pass, and whoever gets the pass should one time it. The Goalie Bash-Have one of your payers check the goalie, and while the goalie gets up, shoot it into the net. If you do this right, you get an easy goal. The Flaring Timer-Do a triple timer or one timer, but have the player shooting it on a hot spot. Hot spots are the spots where when you shoot, the puck flames, and your chances of scoring are raised. The one timer is hard enough to block, as well as the triple, but on a hot spot is the hardest. This is a very good technique. Through the Legs-Fatigue the goalie first. Stay in his zone a lot, and after about 30 seconds, shoot it straight at him. Sometimes it will go through his legs, or to his side. The Codes: At the screen after picking your player, you will see three spheres in the bottom or top of the screen. This is where you enter the codes. You enter X, Y, or B. The first sphere is X, the second Y, and third B. You push the button the number of times the code says. For example, 5-3-4 would mean that you push X five times, y three times, and B four times. The direction is the direction you push to enable the cheat. It is pushed on the D-Pad. Here are the codes: Big Head Player-2-0-0 Right Huge Head player-3-0-0 Right Big Head Team-2-2-0 Left Huge Head Team-3-3-0 Left Big Hitz-2-3-4 Down Late Hitz-3-2-1 Down No Crowd-2-1-0 Right Hitz Time-1-0-4 Right Pinball Board-4-2-3 Right Shot Speed-1-0-1 Up Team Shot Speed-2-0-1 Up No Fake Shots-4-2-4 Down No Puck Outs-1-1-1 Down No One Timers-2-1-3 Left Big Puck-1-2-1 Up Huge Puck-3-2-1 Up Bulldozer Puck-2-1-2 Left Tennis Ball-1-3-2 Down Snow-1-2-1 Left Rain-1-4-1 Left Domino Effect-0-1-2 Right Faster Turbo-0-0-2 Up Infinite Turbo-4-1-3 Right Win Fights for Goals-2-0-2 Left Verse Player 2 in skills mode-2-2-2 Down First to 7 Wins-3-2-3 Left More Time to Enter Codes-3-3-3 Right Hockey Ball-1-3-3 Left Disable Previous Code-0-1-0 Down (Thanks to THEGAMECFH, Joe Kov, and Gvnthunderbird at gamewinners for these codes. They will be credited.) There are several good combinations of codes to use. For instance, if you put the no fake shots and no one timers, you are being the Lord of Cheap, and will not let as many goals go by. I usually use the infinite turbo and turbo boost, because it makes your players super speedy. The big hitz code will work well with the bulldozer puck, too. The big hitz and domino effect codes will bond. The hitz will be hard, and your opponents will run into each other, knocking them all down. Try your own combinations and e-mail them to me, and if they're good, I'll put them here. Franchise Tips Although I have listed some, I will put some more. When you create your team, give one extra point per skill to each of the top three players, not the goalie. So you should have each player with statistics that read 6. Keep doing this until they are all even and can go no more without making the players uneven. Then, give the rest to the goalie in his recovery, balance, and stamina categories. This will give your team a good start. After you win a few games, give half the points to your goalie and top three players and then the other half to player four. Keep repeating this pattern until your team is maxed out. Remember that there are 50 games, and you get 6 points for each win. That means that when you win the cup, not only do you win the 5000 credits, but also a total of at least 300 points. Tat doesn't even include the trivia questions. In the franchise mode, the difficulty increases. The fighting will take a dramatic difficulty change, and will become harder. That means that you need a balanced team, in case your great players get beaten in a fight and get out for the game. I have a few fighting tips, though. First, you have to push A and X several times, and then block, and push A and X again. Don't dodge or grab until the fighting gets really intense, or when you get back into position, you will be clobbered. And don't try to do the fancy grab when the opponent is at low health trick. It only wastes time, and if the opponent dodges it, they will beat you very fast. You may want to try your custom teams in exhibition matches against the Avalanche or the Devils. They are very difficult, and can be good practice to verse. The player's size is a big factor. I, myself, prefer to use two big players and one small one. The big players are a bit slower, but check hard, yet the small players are faster and a bit more agile. Also, sometimes if you push X when your opponent shoots and you're in front of him, you will fall to the ground to block. The bigger your players, the better the blocks, so keep this in mind. Weather or not you use my tactics is up to you, but I recommend that you do. Championship Mode Tips In this mode, you can earn 4000 credits from getting the cup. When you also factor your winnings per round, it adds up to at least 5000. That doesn't include trivia. However, the difficulty increase is far more sudden then that of franchise mode. You will play one round, and then the next may be a disaster. I suggest practicing against the team you will face next in an exhibition match, and if you cream them, you are ready for the real thing. The fighting will also get harder. Just do what I said to do in franchise mode, and you will be fine. If you are really bad at fighting, then don't set up the win fights for goals cheat. I suggest using one of the special teams purchased in the hockey shop. My preference is the alien team, the Grays. Hey are very fast, and their attributes are high. If you're really good, then try the Devils or another NHL team. And f you are confident enough, try your custom team. Remember to be alert or the difficulty changes along the way, and good luck!
