You have to collect 8 schematics. Some times these objects will have a dark blue/purple glow. Schematics are like blue prints for armor and weapons, they allow you to buy them at the store or upgrade your suit. Their is a schematic for 6 levels of suits and 6 guns. You should get this early in the game.
