Walkthrough - Special Vehicle FAQ======================================================================== JUST CAUSE SPECIAL VEHICLE FAQ ======================================================================== Author: Johnny H. H. the 4th (Lancet Jades) Author's Homepage: http://www.evermoreforums.com/forums/index.php Version: 1.10 (completed September 6th, 2010) Sites with permission to post this FAQ: GameFAQs.com Neoseeker.com Gamesradar.com Gamershell.com Supercheats.com ======================================================== ABOUT ======================================================== This guide is to assist those players who enjoy collecting rare or unique vehicles. This guide lists all known proofed, special property, unique, and even rare vehicles (which often have to be unlocked). I'd say more, but I pretty much just summed it up. Yes, this is the same preamble as my other guides. Copy/paste FTW. This guide was written for the Xbox 360 version! I do not own the PS2 or Xbox version, but have heard that some content may have been cut. Due to this, some of the information present in this guide may not apply to it. I will mark known discrepancies where possible, but I cannot guarantee this will apply 100% to the PS2 or Xbox original versions. This guide owes huge credit to GTA_Loco's guide, which provided a lot of important insights on vehicles, but which is unfortunately heavily outdated. CAUTION! This guide may inadvertently contain spoilers of story missions! While this guide's scope does not really involve spoiling anything, due to what is required of it, the potential for small spoilers, such as names or events, is present. Just keep that in mind. Whenever a mission is listed, the employer is listed in parentheses next to it. Vehicles are listed according to the name displayed when getting inside, not the name some menus (such as Guerrilla and Rioja relation lists) use. ======================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS ======================================================== 1: Terms in the guide 2: Safehouses and landmasses 3: Special vehicles 3.1 - BP - Bulletproof. This vehicle is immune to all forms of bullet attacks, such as your guns, and mounted guns. It is still damaged by explosions and ramming it around, however. DP - Damageproof. This vehicle will not take damage from bashing it around, ramming other vehicles or obstacles, and so forth. This counts both cosmetically and for its actual durability: it won't show damage nor take actual damage from ramming and such. Bullets and explosions still affect it, though. Note that while aircraft may be DP (and a gyrocopter in one mission actually is), this only protects it against normal damage. The instant destruction that aircraft are susceptible to in high-speed collisions is NOT prevented by being DP! Description - A description of unique color/feature vehicles and WHY they are unique. Discovered by - This is not necessarily the first person to discover a vehicle, but rather the first person to report it to me. I will add the original discoverer if I'm able to determine who originally found it, however. Formulated by - This is who informed me of the strategy to obtain the vehicle. Vehicles that were pointed out to be, but where I was given no strategy to obtain it often lead to me developing the strategy, although most will have the same entry for Discovered and Formulated by. NOTE: Vehicles provided for you automatically, or set right in front of you, have no formulated by listed, as there is barely even a strategy needed: just get in and put it in a garage. Free roam - This is what you do between missions. Anytime "NO ACTIVE MISSION" is listed in the PDA's mission information option, you're in free roam. Vehicles found in free roam may be found at anytime, regardless of mission. There may be quirks to how it appears, or some condition that must be met, however. They may also stop appearing after a certain point. Invincible - An invincible vehicle cannot be destroyed or jacked by any means whatsoever. The only one fitting this description is the Agency helicopter used during extractions and heavy drops. Isolated - An isolated vehicle is one that is found on a landmass, via a story mission or some other such limited appearance, where it cannot normally be found. However, these vehicles may be obtained elsewhere at any time, whether they spawn naturally, or are unlocked. Either way, these vehicles are special purely because they are found in a location that the vehicle cannot be found in, or driven to. The normal location(s) of the isolated vehicle will also be listed, as well as the province in which it is found isolated. Jack - To jack a vehicle means to steal it. This is probably not a necessary entry, but I figured I'd add it just in case. Liberation - A liberation mission is where Rico and either the Guerrillas or the Rioja conquer a settlement belonging to either the Government, or the Montano Cartel. Although there are many of each, they are nonetheless limited, as once all settlements are liberated, there are none more to take. There are four types of liberations: Countryside, Urban, Military, and Cartel. The first three are Guerrilla missions, and depend on the type and location of the settlement. They each involve different objectives and have different vehicles present. The last one is the Rioja mission, and involves conquering Montano mansions and estates. Mounted gun - A mounted gun is a gun turret that someone can man, including Rico. Vehicles usually have three potential versions: no mounted gun, a roof mounted gun, and a rear mounted gun. The roof gun faces forward, with the rear gun facing backwards. Often, one version is normal, with the others being unique. Non-affiliated - This is used to designate a vehicle that is not affiliated with any faction (listed in section 8). Normally the absence of a faction would indicate this, but this is used if the vehicle in question is always of a certain faction (such as the Huerta Mesa police SUV), but in one specific instance, is available as a normal vehicle with no affiliation. Normal locations: The places where an isolated vehicle normally spawns. Phase - The game takes place in three phases. The first begins at the start of the game, the second begins after completing mission 7, and the third after mission 13. The phases affect the selection of various side missions, liberation difficulty and vehicles present, and what level of police presence and vehicles used in free roam. Rare - This is used in the guide as an "unlockable" vehicle. Resistant - A resistant vehicle cannot be saved in garages. Although they may physically be placed in a garage, the garage will ignore it, and will not retain it as usual. If a resistant vehicle is in a garage, the garage will open like normal for other vehicles. All side mission special vehicles are of this variety, unfortunately. Unique - This vehicle is unique and found in story missions only, or other limited-time availability missions, and thus can be missed altogether. If missed, it cannot be seen again unless the game is restarted. Unlockable - This term in my guide denotes a vehicle that is only infinitely available either through story missions and/or by unlocking it at some point through the story, whether by completing a mission, finishing a side mission, or even a vehicle that is only available during a side mission, but is repeatedly available by doing the mission over and over at your leisure. NOTE: For the purpose of this guide, and due to the absolutely massive game map, any vehicle that will appear randomly on the road will not be considered "rare," even if completing the story up to a certain point, and/or completing side missions is required to allow it to spawn. Any that stop spawning after a certain point will still be documented when possible, however. In general, Guerrilla vehicles only appear in liberated provinces, Police in Government provinces, while Montano and Rioja appear at all times. Unobtainable - A vehicle that, for whatever reason, cannot be obtained and/or stored with its properties. ======================================================== *2* SAFEHOUSES AND LANDMASSES ======================================================== These are places to store vehicles, save your game, refill your health, restock ammunition, and get vehicles if you lack one. All have one garage that is able to store one vehicle. There are 48 in all, five from the Agency (Rico's employer), 33 from the Guerrillas, and 10 from the Rioja Cartel. Agency safehouses unlock as story missions are completed. Guerrilla safehouses are unlocked after liberating provinces, which require them to be unstable first. Provinces are destabilized by completing story missions, too. Rioja points may be earned via Rioja-related collectibles (620 points worth), taking over Montano settlements (mansions and estates - 30 per settlement, 45 total), and Rioja side missions. Rioja side missions are available after the mission "The San Esperito Connection" and may be completed at any Rioja-owned settlement (requiring at least one takeover to be completed before doing the side missions). NOTE: You can use Safehouse garages before unlocking the safehouse! However, that is the only feature that works. Health, ammo, and save terminals won't work until unlocked, nor can you be extracted there. These include a land vehicle spawn, along with possibly sea or air, and a possible guard tower with a mounted gun. All courtesy of Master Gamer's guide. Which vehicle appears is indicated by Rico's Guerrilla rank. These are the islands that are interconnected by land. Vehicles obtained on one landmass cannot be driven to others, as they are divided by water. This is largely a non-issue, as the land that makes up a good 90% of the game is interconnected. The following are the landmasses. Initial Landmass: This comprises the two islands you begin the game on. There is no bridge from these two islands to the mainland of San Esperito. The provinces are Provincia Aguilar, Provincia de La Cruz, Isla de la Asuncion, and Provincia de Rio Negro. Main Landmass: This is the huge center area. Nearly all other provinces are part of this general landmass, and any area can be driven to from any other area. The only important province not part of this is listed below. Southern Landmass: This is composed purely of Provincia Los Islas. There is only one available safehouse here, Guerrilla 21, with only the spoils of the two liberation missions (one being a military base, will preclude the small town if done first) to store, along with local findings and heavy drops. In addition, various small islands have no land connection to anywhere else, however they rarely have anything of interest. There is a large island, the province Isla Dominio, with military presence (a strong one!), but this has absolutely no connection to anywhere with a garage, and therefore vehicles there may as well not exist. Basically, the beginning areas are separate from the rest of the game, as far as garages and vehicles are concerned. There are 7 safehouses in the two initial islands, with the rest on the main landmass, all connected by bridges. And of course, one on the southern island, that can only store vehicles from that island. ======================================================== *3* SPECIALLY COLORED/FEATURED VEHICLES ======================================================== These vehicles all have some special color of feature that the vehicle usually does not have. --------- 3.1 - BP/DP Agency MV w/ rear mounted gun --------- Mission: Devil's Drop Zone (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ***** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: This is a dark blue MV with a turret on the back, and Agency emblems on the sides and back of the cabin. Strategy: Proceed with the mission until you are about 300M from the destination during the mounted gun sequence (firing at enemy vehicles while Sheldon drives). As soon as you begin turning off of the road onto a dirt road, press Y and dismount the gun! If done properly, after the cutscenes (when you have control of Rico again), return down the road and the MV should be waiting there, next to a fence. Proceed further down the road to the main (paved) highway and jack a vehicle. Aim for something small but with a little power; the Wallys GP (Jeep) that can sometimes be found is nice (but beware the military wanted level for jacking it and especially killing the occupants). Drive back to the MV and begin pushing it towards the garage. Line it up straight (you won't get it in at an angle) and begin pushing into the garage. With luck, the door opening won't push it away, and you'll get it inside. If it starts vanishing and reappearing, it is in far enough for it to be driven, so if it still jams the door, abandon the pushing vehicle and just drive the MV yourself. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.2 - Guerrilla Yamada 37-14 Vaquero (1st of 2) --------- Mission: Freedom Fighters (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A Yamada 37-14 Vaquero with green siding and Guerrilla emblems, instead of the Agency 01 safehouse's purple, or heavy drop's gray. Strategy: Guerrilla fighters sometimes spawn on these, having driven then to the battlefield. Just take it to a nearby safehouse after finding it. This is especially easy during the liberation of Merecure, as the Guerrilla's first safehouse is right nearby. If none of these appear, restart the mission, either by failing it, or loading a save from after Breakout. Note that failing the mission and aborting AFTER liberating the first town may permanently skew your stats, since the liberation will be counted, but when you re-liberate it, it gets counted again. Formulated by: Lancet Jades --------- 3.3 - Dark Green MV w/ rear mounted gun --------- Mission: The San Esperito Connection (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A dark green MV with a mounted gun on the rear. It has no affiliation or emblems. Others like this may be found elsewhere, but they have roof mounted guns, not rear ones. Strategy: Two of these escort the target's Fusilier Commander. To obtain one, simply jack it somehow (grappling hook, car-to-car stunt, plain old jacking), and finish the mission with it. It will be waiting outside the hotel at the end, after the cutscene plays. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.4 - Isolated Purple Vanderbildt Route 66 --------- Mission: Test of Loyalty (Edmundo) Difficulty: * Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A bright purple Route 66 truck. This is the Montano's purple, but the truck lacks actual Montano emblems, possibly because it's meant to be inconspicuous. Strategy: This is waiting at the black dot in Isla de la Asuncion, as an easy way into the rice mill. Head there, jack it, then take it to a garage. Afterwards, either kill yourself to fail the mission, or just continue and complete the mission. Alternatively, get some of the other vehicles in this mission before killing yourself. Formulated by: GTA_Loco Isolated location: Isla de la Asuncion. Normal location: Provincia de Don Ernesto, Athena Palace settlement. --------- 3.5 - Purple Battaille GPT-6 --------- Mission: Test of Loyalty (Edmundo) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A bright purple Battaille GPT-6, which is usually a gray military vehicle. The purple is the Montano purple, but it lacks any emblems. Strategy 1: This is the coca truck at the end. Obtaining it can be a bit tricky. All the coca boxes must be dumped. The first layer can be ditched by jumping the truck off the stone ramp near the hangar where it's located (the ramp is a black dot on the map). To ditch the second layer, ram stuff at high speed. Drive off ramps and cliffs, drive on slopes, ram other vehicles. Once all the boxes are out, the mission fails. Drive the truck to a garage and store it. Formulated by: GTA_Loco Strategy 2: Drive the truck to a garage, park it inside, and kill Rico. --------- 3.6 - Montano Shimizu Tumbleweed w/ roof mounted gun --------- Mission: Test of Loyalty (Edmundo) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A bright purple Shimizu Tumbleweed with Montano emblems and a mounted gun on the roof of the cabin. These are not normal Montano trucks, and are only found attacking you in response to the attack on the rice mill. Strategy 1: Wait for one to show up, kill the Montanos around it, and drive it to a garage. This may be obtained at the same time as the isolated Route 66 and the Montano Battaille GPT-6, just make sure to get the Route 66 and Tumbleweed in a garage, then fail to obtain the Battaille GPT-5. Note that these Tumbleweeds ONLY appear inside the rice mill compound. Outside, normal Montano vehicles pursue Rico. Formulated by: Lancet Jades Strategy 2: If the Montano pursuit makes taking this to a garage during the mission a problem, just destroy the coca truck to fail (after getting in a Tumbleweed, lest it disappear!), then drive to the garage without the trouble the mission's wanted level brings. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.7 - Military Fusilier Commander --------- Mission: Some Like It Hotter (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A gray Fusilier Commander limousine with Military emblems near the back. Strategy: Pursue the limo convoy and seize the limo. Parachuting and using the grappling hook is a good strategy, as is attacking others in the convoy (consider the Mako Ocra), and hoping for the car to stop. The road leading to Rioja 03 safehouse is en route to the volcano crater, making storing this and finishing the mission easy. If you plan to get this and the military Apache Army Model 842, take the bike, store it somewhere, then kill yourself. Repeat the mission and take the Fusilier Commander. It's difficult to get both. Formulated by: Lancet Jades --------- 3.8 - Non-affiliated Shimizu Tumbleweed w/ rear mounted gun --------- Mission: Brothers in Arms (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Triggered explosives Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A randomly-colored Tumbleweed with a unique rear mounted gun. These usually only have roof-mounted guns. Strategy 1: This is sitting at the meeting site. To obtain it, play the mission until you meet Esperanza, then drive until the target is about 160M away. Get out and plant a bomb next to Esperanza's Tumbleweed. Now, run towards the meeting site along the hill to the right of the road (this is important!). Once you have the vehicle in view, detonate the explosives, and make a run for the truck. Get in, and choose to abort the mission. You must get in before the mission failed prompt finishes, or else it will vanish. Formulated by: GTA_Loco Strategy 2: Play up until you've reached the meeting site and the battle breaks out. Kill everyone near this vehicle and then blow up Esperanza's Tumbleweed (use a Mako Ocra from one of the dead soldiers). Get in this car quickly, and abort the mission when prompted. This is more dangerous (since the enemies will respawn, and fire on you in the car), but faster and easier. Formulated by: Lancet Jades NOTE: There are several of these in pursuit during the chase, and Sanchez's vehicle itself is this. Any of them will do just as well as the first one parked at the meet, but unless you finish the mission inside it, it will vanish upon completion. --------- 3.9 - Non-affiliated Meyer Compact PT w/ useless mounted gun --------- Mission: Brothers in Arms (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Triggered explosives Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A randomly-colored Meyer Compact PT with a mounted gun in the back compartment. The gun is non-functional, however, and only for show. Formulated by: Lancet Jades NOTE: Two of these escort Sanchez during the chase. Either one will do just as well, but are more difficult to keep than the one at the meet. --------- 3.10 - Military Wallys GP w/ roof mounted gun --------- Mission: Broadcast News (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: Lancet Jades Description: A military-brand Wallys GP, nothing new there. Except for the mounted gun on the roof. Normally, these have no mounted guns, except in one mission and one military base, where they have a rear gun. This is unique. Strategy: After Caramicas finishes his speech, Rico is charged with demolishing the radio tower. At this point, several soldiers appear in these jeeps around the studio. Take one to the nearby Guerrilla 18 safehouse, stash it in the garage, then return and finish the mission. Formulated by: Lancet Jades --------- 3.11 - Military Yamada 37-14 Vaquero --------- Mission: I've Got The Power (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: Lancet Jades Description: A gray Yamada Vaquero dirtbike with military emblems. This bike really gets around. Strategy: This is found behind the southwestern building of the power plant facility the mission has you destroying. Specifically, the nuclear reactor compound in the southwest of the island itself. The easiest way to obtain this is to get a boat or plane and head directly for the nuclear reactor in the southwest. Once Rico notices it, it switches the mission to destroying it, bypassing the first power complex. Destroy the reactor control panel, then get on the bike and ride towards the marker. Once you get close enough, the game cuts to the mission end cutscene, and places you on the beach where the mission began. If you were riding it when the cutscene kicked in, the bike will be right behind you. Drive it to a garage. Formulated by: Lancet Jades NOTE: This is almost impossible to get off the island without finishing the mission, as you must brave constant military attacks, a Hammerbolt firing quad missiles, and a long bridge packed with vehicle barricades you'll need to blow up to pass. --------- 3.12 - Agency Cutler-Randall Conquistador --------- Mission: Some Enchanted Evening (Kane) Difficulty: * Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: This is the primary car used by both Rioja and Montano, except this time it's in Agency blue, complete with the matching emblems. Strategy: This is sitting right outside the trailer at the start of the mission. Just drive it to a garage, then proceed with the mission. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.13 - Military Huerta Mesa --------- Mission: Some Enchanted Evening (Kane) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A military-color Huerta Mesa with matching emblems. Normally, this is police-only. Strategy: These pursue Rico as he leaves the airport. Simply jack one and drive it to a garage. The mission ends when an UNLOCKED safehouse is reached, but if he was in a vehicle, it will be waiting nearby after finishing. Alternatively, just take it to Guerrilla 25 (near the airport) and drive something else to finish the mission. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.14 - Black Hand MV w/ roof mounted gun (1st of 3) --------- Mission: Streets of Fire (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: GTA_Loco Description: A black-colored MV with a roof mounted gun and Black Hand emblems on the side and back. Strategy: This vehicle is used to escort the armored truck. Two of them flank it. Just jack one and take it to a nearby garage. Be careful; they seem to resist the grappling gun, so a car-to-car stunt may be required. Formulated by: GTA_Loco --------- 3.15 - Black Hand Meister ATV 4 --------- Mission: Streets of Fire (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: Lancet Jades Description: A Meister ATV 4 armored truck with Black Hand emblems. Despite that it's a Black Hand vehicle, it isn't actually colored black, though. Strategy: This is the target vehicle. To obtain it, jack it and drive it to a garage, store it, then kill Rico. The vehicle vanishes if the mission is successful. Formulated by: Lancet Jades --------- 3.16 - Black Hand Stinger GP w/ roof mounted gun (1st of 3) --------- Mission: Streets of Fire (Tom Sheldon) Difficulty: ** Required: Nothing Discovered by: Lancet Jades Description: A black-colored Stinger GP with a roof mounted gun and Black Hand emblems. This seems the same as the one you are sometimes asked to steal in Guerrilla side missions during phase 1. Strategy: These join the pursuit once the armored truck (Meister ATV 4) has been jacked. Just switch over to it and store it in a garage. May require failing the mission, although Rioja 08 is close enough you could lead one there, store it, and finish the mission.
