[0.C] Boss Infected Strategy Before we begin with the rest of the guide, I will be laying out some tactical information that players should use when dealing with the boss infected characters. These strategies are the strategies I use when I complete my play-throughs on Expert. TANK – The most important thing you can do when fighting the tank is spread out and take gut shots at him. Always aim for the chest if you are using the shot gun as the spread will most generally hit the head hit box. Agro – If the tank is attacking another teammate, to divert his attention, simply melee him a few times and he will turn his attention to you. Throw – When the tank throws an object at you, shoot it out of the air. This is more effective and easier than trying to dodge it. Practice this in versus or on easy mode if you have to. Towering Inferno – There is an achievement for a reason. One survivor should always try to have a Molotov handy. Throw this near the tank and light him up. On Expert, the Tank will generally with ~40 seconds after you light him up. Light him up, and run! Taking cheap shots as you round corners doesn’t hurt, either. WITCH – The most devastating of all the classes, and yes, more devastating than the tank. The witch takes survivors to their knees in a single hit, and kills them on Expert in two or three. I recommend sniping from a distance (the hunting rifle DOES have a purpose) and having the players who did not startle the witch pound her in to the floor (shot gun is recommended.) She should die rather quickly. Using a Molotov helps, but if you have only one, you should use this on the Tank. SMOKER – The smoker is the second most vulnerable class. Use this to your advantage. When a player is constricted, run up and melee your teammate. The smoker is useless at this point. If he is in view, feel free to take him out. Once a successful attack is landed, he will be momentarily stunned. HUNTER – The Hunter is quite possibly the most devastating of the three regulars. He is also the strongest of the three, and moves the quickest. The best way to deal with the hunter is to time it just right and smack him with a melee attack when he leaps at you. The longer the jump, the easier the defensive maneuver. Again, practice this in versus with friends. Five successful melee attacks should kill a Hunter on Expert. Remember, Hunters can jump off of walls at players (in versus as well.) BOOMER – The most vulnerable and slowest of the regulars. The best way to deal with the Boomer is from a distance. Melee, move backwards, and then shoot the Boomer. One well-placed shot should kill him, even on Expert. Completing all sections of a Campaign without his splooge covering any teammates will also net you a fancy achievement. [0.D] Version History Version 1.B December 04, 2008 Added Versus Section & Achievement Section. Strategic Key elements for Finales added as well. Future update expect to see the completion of the Versus section. Version 1.A November 30, 2008 First publicized version of the guide, some details may be missing, as well as special infected spawn locations. I will update this and add these locations in the next version. [0.E] Special Thanks… I would like to extend my thanks to the following players who slaved through each stage at a snails pace while I wrote this guide. Dark Warrior182 Benji1201 RORO1224 SK Tron Wh1te Cocoa I prefer to also thank Valve. Without you, I wouldn’t have compiled my first strategy guide. And BurtonJ, to you as well, for without you this would not be possible. [1.0] No Mercy Introduction No Mercy is a close tie for the most difficult of the four campaigns next to Blood Harvest if you are seeking the Expert completion achievement, and respectfully holds the most difficult Campaign if you are attempting the Zombicidal Maniac achievement. Aside from this, No Mercy is respectfully easy to navigate, with the optional paths barely diverting far from the main, permanent path. [1.A] The Apartments There are two entrances to the apartments from the roof top. The best solution is to go down the fire escape, and not through the sky roof. Once down, on your right, there is a random chance for a Molotov in the closet. Now, follow through the kitchen and past the living room. Occasionally there is a chance for pills to be in the rest room. If there is a rush (you will hear three notes play) the wall on your immediate right, when entering the living room from the kitchen will break down and zombies will flood out. Take the door downstairs to the next level down of the apartments. The first room on your left occasionally has pills or a health pack. When you enter the room, the closet on your left occasionally has several Molotov cocktails stacked on the ground. Continue to the next living room and through the kitchen area into the next living area. Occasionally, the bathroom on your left will have pills on the sink. If you skip around the hole in the ground, there is occasionally pills next to the water heater in the closet. There are two directions you can take when you have dropped through to the ground level. You can exit straight out of the broken wall (if it is broken) or follow through the kitchen and living room, and around the apartment if you choose to. Take a left out of the apartments and follow the path. When you reach the first opening, the storage room on your left occasionally has pills, pipe bombs, or Molotov cocktails inside. The first car on your right occasionally has the second pistol, and if it does not, the car around the corner to the street will. Occasionally, there is pills on the ground next to the white van in the corner as well. When you reach the street, there are three paths to choose from. You can take the right into the building, follow the street, or stick to the left next to the semi truck and follow through the storage building. If you chose the building on the right, down the hall, the first room on your left has a medical station. The door at the end of the hallway is a rescue closet. The door on the left leads to a room that conjoins the front desk area. This side room occasionally has pills, Molotov cock tails, or pipe bombs. Take the exit through the window or the doors should you choose and continue down the Street. The next option leads down the left side by the semi truck into the parking lot. When you reach the door at the far end, there are occasionally pipe bombs, pills, or Molotov cocktails in the storage room on your left. Now, take the path in front of you and follow it through to the other end of the street. If you choose the third and most direct path, simply follow the street to the safe house. Make sure you don’t shoot any of the cars as this will attract a horde. Now, run down into the basement room that is attached to the safe house. In this room, there are occasionally pills on the desk that is flipped upside down. Now run in and close the door. [1.B] The Subway After clearing the initial area, open the door and jump down. There are two paths. The left leads down into the general subway, while the right leads to a vent shaft. Occasionally, there are pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails next to the hole in the shaft. Run down to the central sub way area. Make sure to kill zombies on the way. If you are on Expert, expect a rush to occur before you make it to the bottom of the escalators. Occasionally, the second pistol will be on the booth on the right. If not, it will randomly be on one of the benches up the next set of escalators. You will also occasionally find pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, or pills in these booths. Occasionally there are even health kits, and if you’re lucky, tier 2 weapons will be on the table in front of the booth on the left. Now, take your pick of which side of escalators to ascend. If you go up the right side, you have the option of climbing on top of the sub. To do this, jump up onto the trash can, jump onto the edge of the roof, and then jump again to maneuver across the room. There are also occasionally pills on one of the two sides. In the instance of writing this guide, if you took the left set of escalators, there were two pills sitting on the benches. Follow the tunnel to the next major room. In this room, there is a hidden tunnel on the right, over where the fire is blooming. The table under the next archway on the tracks is also one of the spawn points for the tier 2 weapons. Occasionally, this subway car also holds pills or a health pack. There is a rescue closet on the left side as well. Occasionally there are Molotov cocktails on the bench on the left side. Follow the path down the next room and through the connected subway cars to the end of the line. The room on your right hosts a rescue closet, and occasionally has Molotov cock tails, pills, or pipe bombs. Head through the door on your left, and remember the table here occasionally hosts the tier 2 weapon spawn point as well as an occasional set of pills or health pack. You are now in a chamber with many pillars. At the end of the room on your left is another rescue closet. The table next to the opening to the stairs hosts the last spawn point for the tier 2 weapons. Run to the top of the stairs and into the next room. When preparing for the crescendo event, leave the two oil containers where they are. Gather the Molotov cocktails if they are on the boxes as you enter the room (there are up to 8 total) and any pills or health packs in the medical station. Mounting the gun is not necessary. When the crescendo event begins, and the zombies begin piling in, shoot the two oil containers. This should take care of the first wave. Throw a Molotov cocktail to the door in which you entered, and one straight down the hole in the room with the medical station. Make sure you clean up any stragglers that remain. Head up the stairs. The room at the other end of the balcony occasionally has pills, pipe bombs, or Molotov cocktails in it. Be sure to check it. In this next “safe room” there is ammo, and occasionally weapons, the absolute last station you will encounter. Head through the next door and into the hallway. The first door on your right has two windows which lead to the alleyway below. This is option one. The second door is an empty closet. The third door has three windows and occasionally has pills, Molotov cocktails, or pipe bombs on the desks. The last room on your right occasionally has pills in it as well. If you follow the hallway down the stairs to the front entrance, there is a rescue closet on your left before the main room, and occasionally there are Molotov cocktails, pills, or pipe bombs behind the front desk. You can take the front doors or follow the hallway to the alleyway to exit. Exit to the street. Follow the street down to the safe house and enter. There is an alley on your right with a storage room, but as of this time, there are no item spawns to my knowledge. Close the safe house door. [1.C] The Sewer There are two choices when you first exit. Straight into the storage room, or left down the alley. If you took the storage room, there are occasionally pills, Molotov cocktails, or pipe bombs. Head through the door, where there is a car garage on your right. Occasionally there is ammo here, as well as Molotov cocktails. Follow the path on your left. In the back of the open van, there is occasionally pills, pipe bombs, or Molotov cocktails. Follow the alley to the door and head through. In this storage area, you may find the second pistol, pills, pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, or even a health pack. Follow the path through the kitchen and into the dining area. On the table as you turn into the dining area is another spawn for the second pistol. Next to the fountain drinks machine is occasionally pills or a health pack. The bathroom on your left is a rescue closet. Head out the door, or the window should you so desire. There is a storage room next to the end of the semi that occasionally has pills inside on a shelf. Be careful of the gas station, as well placed shots will ignite it. The windows across from the lift, with the gas station between them house one of the tier 2 weapon spawns. There are occasionally pipe bombs in the large room and in the closet as well. You will occasionally find pills or health packs. You can climb up by the objects and on to the dumpster, or by blowing the gas station and climbing over the debris. If you are playing on Expert, it is recommended you activate the crescendo event and run back to this room as it is the easiest to defend from. When the crescendo event ends, make your way across the rooftop. There are two options here. You can climb through the window or follow the pipe down to the two smaller windows. The choice is yours. Note that there are occasionally pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails in the top floor of the room. Fall through the hole in the ground, or enter via the smaller windows to the room with the medical station. The storage room on the left occasionally has Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, or a health pack. Head into the hallway, and remember the door on your immediate right is a rescue closet. The second door on the right occasionally holds pipe bombs. The third door (after the stairs leading down) occasionally has one or two health packs, Molotov cocktails, pills, or pipe bombs. The fourth door also occasionally has the random items that the third door has behind it. As well as the door at the end of the hall, and has a hole in the roof for you if you are playing versus mode. Whether you choose to take the path down the stairs or out the window, head to the warehouse. If you went down the stairs, the collapsing gate to the outside may also be opened (this is generally for helping friends in versus mode.) The first room on your left occasionally has health packs or pills, and the bathrooms are rescue closets. The room at the end of the hall occasionally has pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails on the floor. Enter the warehouse. Traverse to the other side. In this alley, the room on your left hosts a rescue closet as well as an occasional set of pills or pipe bombs. Head to the end of the alley, and down the passage, and follow that passage down the stairs to the boiler room. Under the stairs there are occasionally Molotov cocktails. You have two choices in the boiler room. Follow the room and turn right into the room with the red lights or take the sewer entrance at the end of the room. It’s your choice. However, if you took the right to the red-lit room, there are occasional items in one or two of the corners. Enter the sewers. If you took the red lit entrance, skip the first instruction. The following is the path through the sewers. Turn left, left, right into the open room, and then right and head down towards the ladder. Across from the ladder is the final rescue closet on the level. When you exit the sewer, if you face the white transport truck, there are occasionally pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, and the last tier 2 weapon spawn in the level. The ambulance also occasionally has one or two health packs inside. There are also occasionally pills on the counter next to the safe house door. Enter the safe house and close the door. [1.D] – The Hospital Grab your ammo, clear the door, and prepare to kill patients, and doctors, and nurses. (Where are the lawyers?) Take a right out of the gate and head down the hall towards the correct path. I will divert here for a moment. If you turn left, the second pistol spawn point is occasionally at the end of the hall on your right, on a counter. If you followed the path to the right, and took a right down the hallway before the staircase, the only door on your right occasionally has pills sitting on the computer desk. If you turn left, you’ll dead end at an elevator shaft. For versus players, the Infected can traverse all four levels of the hospital from this elevator. Continue following the path now and head up the stairs. Take a left at the top of the stairs into the hallway. There are two paths you can take here. Turn left and enter the main room or turn right into the cafeteria. Next to the fountain drinks is occasionally a Molotov cocktail or a pipe bomb. The second pistol occasionally spawns here as well. If you head out of the cafeteria, turn left and the storage room in the corner, (not towards the elevators) occasionally has pipe bombs in one corner. Now, head up the stairs at the far end of the room. When you enter through the first set of double doors, the second pistol occasionally is located on the counter of the desk in the corner. Follow the path and turn right into the staircase. Head upstairs. Turn right to follow the path, or turn left and follow the hallway to the end of the hall. In one of the corners there is occasionally Molotov cocktails, and this room is also host to a rescue closet. Now continue down the path towards the secretary station. You may choose to pass through the double metal doors or through the staff break area. The choice is yours. Turn right and follow the hallway. The other miscellaneous rooms are empty and serve only as zombie spawn points or have breakable walls for the crescendo event, as well as a vent shaft for players and zombies in versus mode. At the end of this hallway, turn right, and at the end of this hallway, in the small room on your left, is an occasionally health pack. Now, set up around the elevator and prepare for the crescendo event. Remember that the vent above you is an access point, as well as the walls on the right and left of the elevator, not to mention the hallway you entered from. The best suggestion is have two players in opposing corners and two players to stand, and two to duck. Exit the elevator. Go straight. If you turn right, and then left, there is a rescue closet. However, turn left and then follow the edge of the construction site around to the right. Pass the fork lift and continue straight down, following the edge of the building. You should turn a corner and see a yellow generator on the right, and a drawing of a safe house on the wall on the left. Continue straight and take the turn on the right. Follow left, and turn right passing the cables prefab. Turn right and follow this path to the left, and then turn right when you see the stack of boxes. Immediately turn left twice to reach the safe house. Enter the safe house and close the door. [1.E] Rooftop Finale Don’t forget to grab your Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs from the plywood table in the corner. Open the door and head up. This is a straight shot. Follow the path down to the elevator shaft. If you are interested in the miscellaneous rooms in the first long hallway, the room of importance that you will come across has two wooden double doors. Inside there may be pills. Exit to the roof. Make sure you clear every zombie that you encounter, especially on Expert. There are two exploits that you can commission at this point. You may have one player run out and activate the radio, while three remain on the hospital roof, and when the finale begins, those players simply drop back into the elevator shaft and wait on each wave, or you may simply do it the way it was meant to be done, and hole yourself around the level. It is essential and completely critical that players STICK TOGETHER when attempting the finale, especially on Expert. If you reach the rooftop above the radio station, where the gatling gun is located, the two pipes that lead to the tops of each building are important because there are occasionally pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails at each location, and these are especially essential if you are trying to complete the Expert campaign. Molotov cocktails and the gatling gun are your best friend when dealing with a Tank on Expert. Pipe bombs are also a necessity, and don’t forget the oil containers. Placing these out in front of the two metal doors helps when fending off the hordes, as well as possibly on the left hand side below near the gatling gun. There are several waves, and you will encounter two to four tanks. Make sure you blast your way towards the helicopter and home sweet home. In the making of this strategy guide, we spent 1 hour and 45 minutes through No Mercy, killing 1,965 zombies in our path. [2.0] Death Toll Introduction Death Toll is hands down, the easiest of the campaigns to complete on the Expert difficulty thanks to the boathouse finale. However, due to the wide outdoors and the very dark environments, it does hold its own weight in challenging players. [2.A] The Turnpike Grab your weapons, health packs, and continue down the very linear path to the broken bridge. Make sure you watch out for smokers and hunters. If a teammate is constricted, it is better to melee your teammate than try to find the smoker, and you will not be able to reach the smokers location, so release your teammate, and then kill the smoker if you know his location, if you don’t, he will most likely become a nuisance. When you reach the broken bridge, take the path down the left or the right. Preferably the right side, and be careful of Boomers, with the wide open areas, this campaign is very difficult, especially on Expert, if you get splooged. Enter the tunnel. The opening in the wall to your left has a short passage to the left, where you may find an oil container, as well as a rescue closet. If you turn right, you can exit this area back to the tunnel. From the tunnel, across from that opening is a small alcove where you may occasionally find pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails. There is a small alcove again to the right, under the “Speed Limit 45” sign where you may find items as in the alcove stated above. Continue to follow the tunnel, past the dislodged semi truck cab. At the dead end, turn left into the access corridor. At the bottom of the stairs you may go straight into the storage room or turn right, leading into the large storage room with two floors. In the room straight ahead you may find pipe bombs, a propane tank, the second pistol, or pills. If you exit this room into the larger room, and drop down to your right, in the room with the door at the far end on the lower level, you may find pills, or a propane tank, or other goodies. There is also ammo near the door, occasionally. If you are facing the ladder up towards the exit back to the forest, there is another door on the lower level that occasionally houses Molotov cocktails and pills. Head up the makeshift ladder and exit the tunnels. You can either traverse the terrain on the right side of the fence or on the left. If you go the right side, occasionally you will find a propane tank or two in the corner. Continue traversing up towards the safe house. There is also occasionally Molotov cocktails above the safe house. Enter and close the door. [2.B] The Drains Take the exit out of the safe house. There are two choices. If you turn right, you will follow the pipes around to the top of the double floored chamber. If you go straight, you will enter through the ground floor. The first tier 2 weapon spawn point is on the ground floor in the middle of the room. You may also occasionally find the second pistol here. Be careful of horde rushes, as they will flood in from the top of the chamber. Follow the sewer to the end of the hallway. There is a rescue closet at the end of the hallway. However, turn right and enter the large room. This is the crescendo event. Grab the pipe bombs, and Molotov cocktails that you may find in the room and prepare for the event. On Expert this event is critically easy if you time the pipes correctly. To make the event simple, stand on the edge of the walls and melee zombies trying to climb up, before killing them. Cross the electric bridge. On the room on your right is a medical station and ammo. Fill up and prepare to move on. Head up and into the drainage pipe. There are two options here. You may turn right at the first passage or go to the second right, but they both lead to the same room. In this room, you may take the ladder up to the warehouse or follow the room below. Either way, it leads to the same place. Should you take the ladder, you will occasionally find Molotov cocktails on the cables in front of you. However, there are also Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs occasionally in the room below should you choose to take that passage instead. The top level of the warehouse also occasionally has pills, as well as a rescue closet, so consider this when deciding whether to take the ladder path. Exit through one of the two windows and run around the building. The first garage door on your left is open, with a car parked out front. Inside on the table, you may find Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, pills, and rarely health packs. Now, follow the road through the two windows, and into the caboose. Close the door. [2.C] The Church Open the door and head out of the caboose. Make sure you clear any straggler zombies as you pass. The tower on your left occasionally houses propane tanks on the lower level, as well as pills, a second pistol, or occasionally ammo, Molotov cocktails, or pipe bombs. The option is yours as to how you wish to traverse across the train yard. You’ll see a building at the far end and if you decide to check out the ground level of the double decked station, you may find several oil cans. You don’t have to head to the top floor, and may instead choose to climb the side of one of the train cars, but for the sake of this tutorial, we are traversing up the stairs to the top level. At the top of the stairs, in the first room on your left, should be a unlit room. Inside you may find Molotov cocktails, and in the closet you may find a second pistol. The second room contains a rescue closet, occasionally ammo, and occasionally pills. Head out and traverse across the train. The small shack occasionally contains pills and a second pistol. Now turn right onto the road, and continue to follow it, past the “Speed Limit 25” sign into Riverside. Ignore the dirt path to the right. Pass the school bus, and there should be a shack on your right. This is one of the tier 2 weapon spawns, as well as a medical station. On Expert, this is a great place to bunker down during a horde rush. Head out and continue to your right, following the road. Enter the lodge. There may also be a random tier 2 weapon on the ground near one of the dead bodies on the porch. In the kitchen you may find oil cans, pills or a possible health pack in the rest room, and ammo in the living room next to the television. Exit through the living room door back of the living room. There will be an ambulance in your path which occasionally contains pills or health packs. Exit the ambulance and continue to the graveyard. Clear the grave yard of all zombies. In the church you should stock up on ammo, weapons, and Molotov cocktails before starting the crescendo event. Talk to the dude inside the safe room to begin the event. There are several ways to do this. The easiest way is to have three survivors crowd in the shed at the front of the graveyard. One person should run and activate the crescendo event and run back to the shed. Two players cover the window, two players cover the door. However, the alternative is to strategically place teammates around the church as well as placing oil tanks. When the event ends, the man inside will randomly transform into one of the special infected. Open the door, and kill him. If he’s a boomer, back up after you open the door, and kill him. Enter the safe house and close the door. [2.D] The Town At the beginning of the level, clear out the surrounding area from the top of the church. Now, jump down and make your way across the street to the gas station. Inside the gas station, in the back office you may find ammo, among other things. The bathroom is a rescue closet. Exit through the back door. You may investigate the storage warehouse behind the gas station if you wish, but as far as we know, there are no items inside. Now exit the gas station and turn left into the alley. Across the street in the small convenience store you may occasionally find a health pack or pills. Now follow the street. Turn right when you see the news van. The first door on your right leads to a small office space that occasionally houses Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs. Continue to follow the street. Turn right at the tour bus. At the far end in the double metal doors, in the warehouse, you may occasionally find Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, or pills. Now enter the side door to “Poppy Field Florist.” In the closet on your left, there may be pills occasionally. Exit through the front door onto the next street. The building across the street is an empty warehouse building. Now follow the street around and to the right. As you approach the cab of the semi, there is a building on your right that occasionally holds Molotov cocktails. Turn right into the parking lot. By the white van, on the left is a building with an open door and window. Inside there is occasionally Molotov Cocktails or pipe bombs. There is also occasionally ammo inside the doorway to the right. Now jump up onto the van and follow the path into the office building. Inside on the desk is another second pistol location. In the next room on the left are two bathrooms. One is a rescue closet. In one of the cubicles in the room you may find pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails. Exit through the windows to the street. There is a tier 2 weapon location here, as well as ammo, and occasionally health packs or pills. Be fully prepared. The next step is the crescendo event. There are two ways to do this event, and possibly more. I recommend for expert players that three players retreat to the restroom area of the office building. One player should remain to activate the forklift and begin the event, and then make his way back to the restroom. Throw an oil canister outside the door in the conference room and light it up when zombies begin pouring in. The other method is again to place players around the street and some one on the gatling gun. However this is more difficult to accomplish and is not recommended on Expert. Follow up the path on the left that is now created post crescendo. Drop off onto the street and continue until it dead ends. Turn left into the alley. There is only one path to the safe house from here. On your right you will see a Laundromat that occasionally has pills inside. You will then cross under a wooden plank that is a makeshift bridge. On your left is a metal staircase, and at the bottom in the room on your left you may occasionally find a health pack sitting on a table. Now, turn around and follow the stair case to the top, and follow through the buildings and around to the other side of the fence. Drop down and enter the safe house. [2.E] Boathouse Finale Make your way out of the safe house and onto the street. There should be a pipe bomb on the hood of the Hum v. Enter the house. In the bathroom by the bedroom you may occasionally find pills, a health pack, or both. You may also find a second pistol on the dresser in the bedroom. In the kitchen you may occasionally find pills sitting on a counter next to the sink. There is also ammo in the room joining the kitchen and living room. Exit out the back door into the yard via the kitchen. There is a propane tank next to the barbeque for anyone interested. Head towards the shack at the far end near the national park, and you will occasionally find a health pack, pills, or both inside. The health pack will generally be on the floor, partially obscured by the furniture, so look out for it. Head towards Riverside Park. If you divert from the path after the curve upward around to the right, you can divert left and you will find a small cabin. Inside you may find a health pack, pills, both, Molotov cocktails, and possibly pipe bombs. If you continue following the path, you’ll encounter a sheltered picnic area. The bathroom on your left is the last rescue closet in the campaign and also occasionally contains pills on the toilet. Head towards the boathouse and stock up on ammo, health, pills, Molotov cocktails, and pipe bombs, before starting the crescendo event. There are several ways to do this. You can head to the cabin that we mentioned earlier, you can remain in and around the boathouse, or you can head to the dock. If you are attempting this on Expert, I recommend you head to the dock. If you decide to stay in the boathouse, there is a gatling gun on the second floor. When you are ready, begin the finale. For this guide, we accomplish this task by waiting it out on the dock. You’ll face two to four tanks, and if you are on Expert, expect four. *********************************************************************** The boathouse finale is also the easiest to accomplish the Untouchables achievement. *********************************************************************** It took 1 hour and 42 minutes to complete this guide on Death Toll. 1,523 zombies were harmed in the making of this film. [3.0] Dead Air Introduction Dead Air is the second easiest to complete for your Expert run-through. Most of the encounters are top down shoot outs, which give the survivors a hefty advantage, and if that isn’t enough, you get to have a shoot out at an airport. What more could you ask for? [3.A] The Greenhouse Grab your ammo and let’s go. Clear the initial greenhouse. You have the choice of going out the two windows, going through the room on your left, or going through the windows on the room on your left. Yes, you can navigate across the ledge out the windows. That is the path I recommend if you choose to do the Expert campaign. Practice this, and run out along the ledge. If you do it correctly, you will not attract any zombies. Clear the rooftop and make your way across the wooden planks. You have three choices of windows, the two on the left enter a bedroom, while the window on the right enters a separate hallway. They all lead to the same room, but there may be different items thrown about. You may occasionally find a second pistol on the nightstand next to the bed. Continue into the kitchen and dining area. You may also occasionally find a Molotov cocktail on the kitchen table. Exit out the windows onto the roof, after clearing the zombie stragglers. Climb the ladder up to the roof and follow it down around to the next section of apartments. On the floor next to the television stand is another second pistol location. The rescue closet is located in the bedroom on your left. Head down the stairs and turn right into the kitchen. Jump out the window and traverse across the semi truck and into the building at the far end. Enter the safe house and close the door. [3.B] The Crane Open the door. The metal room on your right may occasionally have a stray zombie inside. Take care if playing on the Expert difficulty. Head out and turn left. By the two collapsing doors, around the other side of the boxes you may occasionally find items such as Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs. Use them wisely. Prepare for a horde rush when you walk outside. If you are playing on Expert, I recommend clearing what you can from inside, and then running out, jumping on the dumpster and running along the top of the fence to the wall on your left. Shoot any zombies that try to climb up to you. Climb up the dumpster, up to the van, and up the ladder into the hotel. Across the bed and floor is the first tier 2 weapon location. Make sure you stock up if it’s available to you. Make sure you check all the rooms, especially if you are on Expert. Items are randomly littered in these rooms, as well as a Tank that will not be triggered if you do not open the door. Be careful about this. Follow the hallway and turn right when it dead ends. Head up the staircase and follow this around to the right, and into the next room. There may be Molotov cocktails, pipe bombs, or pills in this location. Check it, before heading out to the crane. If you ignore the crane and jump up to the alcove you may find Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs as well. Check carefully. The crane activates a crescendo event. Before doing so, I recommend one gas canister in the opening between the fences, and the other to remain by the wooden boxes as a last resort. Using spare Molotov cocktails also helps when the first canister dissipates. When the crescendo event ends, climb up the dumpster that has been lowered and follow the rooftops around. You will come to a building with two windows. Taking the left or right does not matter, but on each side you will occasionally find items littered about. The left side being ammo type items, the right side being weapon types or health types. Now open the double doors to Merrill Law Office. In the main office you will occasionally, on your right find pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails. Now exit through the left window and cross the planks to the next building. There may be pills in the kitchen area, or Molotov cocktails, so keep your eyes peeled. Head through the double wooden doors to find the medical station, which is also the tier 2 weapons second location. Stock up on ammo and other necessities before continuing deeper into the office complex. Head past the door on each side and down the stairs, albeit you may wish to clear the zombies out of the rooms if you are attempting the Expert campaign. When you come to the bottom and enter the office, the first door on your right is a kitchen area that contains a rescue closet. Check the private offices as well as the cubicles if you’d like, as they may contain valuable items. Now head down the next flight of stairs into the next office space, which is pretty much identical to the previous one. Again, at the far end of the room on your left is another room, however it is unlit, and has another rescue closet. You may also choose to scavenge the area for useful items. Head down the final flight of stairs to the front office. If you turn right immediately, you may find pills or pipe bombs in the kitchen area, or possibly other items. Don’t forget that, once again there is a rescue closet in this room. You may now choose two different exits. Follow the exit hallway that is lit with green or exit via the front door. I recommend the back door. It is more discrete, and is a choke point for zombies, especially on Expert. When you make your way to the street, head towards the flashing police car, and enter the self storage store. Behind the counter you may occasionally find pills. When you are ready, enter the safe room and close the door. [3.C] The Construction Site Open the door. You may head around to the right if you wish and check the open self-storage shed nearby, but I have not found any items there as of yet. Head left and follow the alley. Turn left again, and you will emerge at the construction site. Clear the area meticulously but be sure not to ignite any of the gas canisters. You need these, especially on the Expert difficulty. Make sure you scavenge the area for Molotov cocktails and pipe bombs. You’ll most likely find these atop the first ladder you come to out in the open. The first tier 2 weapon location is also occasionally at the top of the construction site. Stock up. Don’t forget your second pistol if it is here and you need it. Before activating the crescendo event, there are several ways you can do this. You can clear the construction site and have all players return to the safe house, regardless of whether the door has been torn off by a tank, as it still serves as a choke point for zombie attacks. You have three players return to the safe house, and one player remains at the top of the construction site to activate the crescendo event. When ready, the player begins the event, and runs across the top of the site and down by the safe house, simple! The other way is to simply strategically place gas canisters and hold out against the continual onslaught brought on by the horde. Don’t forget the rescue closet located on the lower level of the construction site. Check the two rooms after the blockade as they each generally contain useful items. Also beware that these rooms are two of the random spawn locations for the witch. At the end of the alley way before you turn left, you may find ammo and pills on the ground. Use them wisely. Continue down the alley and emerge onto the street. Be prepared for a horde rush, and if necessary, launch a pipe bomb. There are several more that generally appear ahead, so don’t worry about letting one or two go. Next to the flashing police car is a dead body that occasionally has pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails next to it. You may choose to go through the High Voltage zone or traverse around it. If you go around it, there are occasionally pills in the warehouse straight ahead, as well as a rescue closet. Turnleft and follow around to the courtyard. Be warned Expert players: This is one of the most common Tank spawn locations. Also be prepared for a horde rush. If you continue past to the end of the courtyard, you will come across a set of dead bloody bodies that occasionally have Molotov cocktails or other items nearby. However, if not, turn right and head into the parking garage. If you turn right past the forklift, there are occasionally pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails, and even possibly a health pack lying littered on the ground. Head through the door into the medical station and close the door. There is also ammo generally on the ground. When you exit through the window or door (whichever you prefer) there is a metal table to your left. This is one of the tier 2 weapon locations. Check the two bathrooms. You may possibly find a health pack, or other goodies. Before heading outside, throw a pipe bomb. This is especially important for Expert players. In fact, you may need two just to clear the majority of the zombies. If you cross over by where the cockpit of the plane you will see a green suitcase on the ground. Generally speaking, you will occasionally find a health pack or pills lying nearby. Head around and into the parking garage. Be careful not to set off any alarms. Unfortunately, as I was writing, I didn’t pay enough attention and set the alarm off myself. Follow the path around to the right. Note the rescue closet on your left. If you turn right and head into the darkened section, you may find items littered about. If you don’t, be careful as on the upward ramp is one of the Witches’ spawn locations. You may choose to go to the right if you’d like, but that is just if you are cleaning zombies. However, check about as there are random goodies strewn about near the staircase at the end of the garage. Head up the staircase. In the room on the right there may be a health pack. Be sure to check. Head across the skywalk and enter the safe room. Close the door. [3.D] The Terminal Open the door and turn left. Here’s where all that work with the hunting rifle will pay off. Clear the room of all visible zombies before continuing. If you get rushed by a zombie horde, they will most likely take the room on the far end and try to flank you via the double wooden doors nearby. If you are playing on Expert, I advise you to clear all of the offices through the wooden double doors before continuing with the crescendo event. There are a lot of items littered about in the offices. Be sure to double check. If you don’t have your second pistol, it also spawns in these hallways. There may be pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails when you exit the offices on your left. Don’t forget that directly in front of you is also another tier 2 weapon location. Next, head down and prepare yourself for the crescendo event, and start the van when you are ready. The easiest way to accomplish this task is to have one person start the event, and the others wait in one of the office rooms. As the zombie horde approaches, throw a Molotov cocktail towards the escalators and retreat into the office building. Close the door if possible. When the event ends, head through the newly constructed path. Next, head to the left into the baggage claim area and traverse the conveyor belts. Expert players: Beware this is another location for the Tank and Witch to spawn. There is also a rescue closet here on the lower level. When you’ve finished traversing the labrynth-like corridors of the baggage claim area, check the room on your right, as it often contains health packs, pipe bombs, or Molotov cocktails. In the next area, be sure not to walk through the metal detectors, as it will set off the alarms and attract the horde. There is also an occasional ammo dump next to the statue in the middle of the room. If you turn left and head toward the subway-looking food place, you’ll possibly find a health pack. Head up the escalators and down the hallway to your left. Expert players beware: This terminal is host to another witch location. However, there are also pipe bombs or Molotov cocktails occasionally lying about near the lone announcement terminal. Check the businesses on the left hand side. During the writing of this guide, we found a pipe bomb and set of pills in the second storage closet. Remember, scavenge. Continue following the hallway. On your right will be the safe house. To your left, through the glass doors, you may find additional items such as Molotov cocktails or pipe bombs. Enter the safe house, close the door. [3.E] Runway Finale Stock up and prepare for the finale. The final area is rather open ended. I suggest Expert players have at least one team member carry a sniper rifle. Clear out all visible zombies before heading down towards the plane. When you are ready, stock up and answer the radio call. It is advised all players attempt to find higher ground locations to complete this finale from. Again, two to four Tanks will be thrown at you, depending on the difficulty. Gather and use pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails wisely. Overall this finale is very straight forward. Take your time, things will go fine. This campaign took 1 hour and 29 minutes to complete the guide. 1,969 zombies were harmed in the making of this film. [4.0] Blood Harvest Introduction Blood Harvest is the second hardest of the campaigns to complete on Expert, and stands alone as the hardest campaign to traverse through. The finale, however is slightly easier than No Mercy’s finale, as you have a much wider, open space to fend off from zombies, with less openings. However it does manage to share the dark and creepy moments with Death Toll, which rivals Blood harvest in difficulty only on the beginning of the first stage, where smokers can easily snag players from locations that players cannot traverse to. [4.A] The Woods Begin by grabbing your weapons and preparing yourself. The first four levels of this campaign are by far the toughest of all the campaigns. Smokers will be constricting players from all angles. I hope you’ve been practicing this level on versus mode. Follow the path. There is only one path for quite a while, but be aware that smokers will be attacking players from every angle, as well as hunters that will jump from maximum distance and instantly incapacitate |
