Version 0.85 (Started Nov. 25th, 2006) - Fixed some mistakes in the guide (duplicate unit info, etc) - Added the second Hyuga disc to the Intro and Disc List. Version 0.95 (Started Dec. 21st, 2006) - Added more Melee Weapons to the Weapons List. - Started Ranged Weapons list. - Started TECHNIC Weapons list. - Finished Armor List (to my best knowledge, there is no more armor in Story/Extra Mode) - Finished Unit List (see above note). - Added a few extra things here or there, including a Palette Strategy for shaving time off of missions (Basic Mechanics Section)! - Fixed a few spelling/name errors. - Added other various changes to different sections, adding info here and there where I could. - Realized that since Version 0.75 I haven't changed the version number at the top! -.- Version 1.00 (Started Jan. 14th, 2007) - Finished Story Mode (not the guide, but in the game) - Finished Chapter 1 and 2 for Story Mode Guide. - Added extra items available before the last battle (the stat enhancers) - Added Death Dancer to the Dual Sabers list. - Realized that when I submitted the guide to GameFAQs on the last update, I didn't tell them to change the Version number. - Realized I never did a "Room Decoration" list, so I added all the ones you can buy at the shop. I'll add the others as I get 'em on my Story Mode replay. [=====================================================================] * Legal Notes * [=====================================================================] - No one is allowed to sell, mass produce, or give away this guide for any reason, whatsoever, without my permission. - Thus far, the only websites I've released this to are as follows: - GameFAQs.com - 1Up.com - and SuperCheats.com - So, anyone else can email me for permission to post this on your site, otherwise, dun do it! - All copyrighted material related to Phantasy Star is owned by Sega. - Not neccessarily a legal note, but a not nonetheless. All of these comments, builds and whatnot are my own personal opinion, your preference may vary. - Only available while supplies last. Photon not included. Void in Moatoob. [=====================================================================] * To-Do List * [=====================================================================] - Finish Story Mode Guide. - Double Check Entire Weapon List, add Board-Only weapons. - Start Female Clothes List. - Start Boards List. - Start Ingredients List. - Start Nano-Blast Badge List. - Add more Character Builds. - Start Missions section. - Finish Room Decorations List. Note: Lower level weapons dissappear from shops as you progress through Story Mode. Hence the reason I have "Double Check Weapon List" on there as well. I added the Ranged and TECHNIC weapon lists, but I want to double check to see if I missed anything because of that. Note 2: Well, I found out why my layout looks like hell. I wrote this FAQ in Wordpad, instead of Notepad. When the GameFAQs people convert it into a .txt file, the format gets all screwy. If you want a non-screwy format version of the guide, email me or check my website (http://www-personal.umd.umich.edu/ ~mbalbert/psuguide.doc). Closing [CL] [=====================================================================] * Intro [IN] * [=====================================================================] ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Basic Storyline | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Taken from the back of the box: - "One hundred years of peace is destroyed in an instant when deadly invaders called The SEED descend on the Gurhal System. As the Alliance Military Force Fleet crumbles under the SEED's superior might, Ethan Waber begins a heroic journey to save his home planet alongside the elite GUARDIANS." - Basically, you play Story Mode as Ethan Waber, a 17 year old Human who lives at the Guardian Colony with his sister Lumia. Ethan has a grudge against the GUARDIANS, a group of protectors whom his father once belonged to. Ethan's father was killed while on a mission for the Guardians. Eventually, Ethan realizes his hatred was misplaced, and ends up joining the guardians. The game is centered around Ethan's relationships with other characters while he fulfills missions for the Guardians. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Characters | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - In this section I'll provide a basic introduction to some of the characters you meet in PSU. *SLIGHT SPOILERS*: Ethan Weber ------------ Age: 17 Years Old Race: Human Sex: Male Class: Hunter (but that can be changed, more on that later) Weapon of Choice: Your Choice! Special Technique: Any. - Ethan is the protagonist of the story, and the character you control in story mode. His personality is friendly, but he also can be aggressive and will often jump into a fight without thinking. He tries his best to provide for and take care of his sister Lumia. Ethan and Hyuga are pretty good friends, and Ethan seems to have a thing for Karen. Lumia (Weber?) --------------- Age: Unknown, younger than Ethan Race: Human Sex: Female Class: Unknown - Lumia is Ethan's younger sister. She is more organized and prepared than her brother, and she is often on his case about him being slow or forgetful. She is religious, and often talks about the Holy Maiden. Leogini "Leo" S. Berafort -------------------------- Age: Unknown Race: Beast Sex: Male Class: Hunter Weapon of Choice: Two-Handed Swords, Spears. Special Techniques: Spinning Break, Dus Rubado. - Ethan meets Leo in the very beginning of the game. Leo gives Ethan his first Saber and Handgun to fight the SEEDs and save his sister. Later, Leo accompanies Ethan as an instructor. Leo's personality is very confident. Hyuga Ryght ------------ Age: 17 Years Old Race: Human Sex: Male Class: Hunter Weapon of Choice: Sabers and Twin Sabers Special Technique: Gravity Strike, Assault Crush. - Hyuga is your right hand man throughout the game. He is typically the same level (or one below) as you are, and is always there when you need people in a party. Hyuga is very religious, often babbling about the Maiden, though he also tries to get with every girl he sees. Karen Erra ------------- Age: 17 Years Old Race: Newman Sex: Female Class: Hunter Weapon of Choice: Twin Daggers Special Technique: ? - Karen is Ethan and Hyuga's original instructor while they are in Guardian training. She got her guardian license at 14 (which they make seem like a big feat to do at a young age), and became an instructor. She is very proper, and always tries to keep Ethan and Hyuga in line during missions. Karen and Ethan seem to have a bond. Karen was an adopted child, and Maya is her "sister". Despite being a Newman, she cannot use TECHNICs. Lucaim Nav ----------- Age: 160 Years Old? Race: CAST Sex: Male Class: Hunter Weapon of Choice: Knuckles and Twin Claws Special Technique: Bogga Danga, ? - During the last training mission, you meet Lucaim. Lucaim is the Headmaster of the Guardians, and is quite old (and as one might expect, he is perverted as well). He is very strong despite his old age. Maya Shidow ------------ Age: 20? Race: Newman Sex: Female Class: Force Weapon of Choice: Staves and Crossbows. - Maya works for the Guardians to make new items and equipment. Unfortunately, all I've seen her make is food, and none of the human characters liked it. She is very smart and sexy. She is Karen's "sister", as Karen was adopted into her family. Tonnio Rhima ------------- Age: Unknown Race: Beast Sex: Male Class: Hunter Weapon of Choice: Daggers, One-Handed Claws. Special Technique: Buten Shuren-zan, ? - Tonnio is introduced later as an assistant instructor to Ethan. He may look like a child, but he is indeed an adult. He is always ready to start a fight, especially with Ethan at first. He is very cocky and easy to get angry. That covers a few basic characters, but you meet TONS more throughout the game. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Stats | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I made this section to explain the various statistics within the game. I got the accronym explanations from the manual. HP = Hit Points. Duh. Your health, if it drops to 0, you die. Unless you have a Scape Doll, that is. This can be recovered using items in the - Mate family or using Resta. ATP = Attack Power. Increases the damage melee attacks will do. ATA = Attack Accuracy. Incrases the damage ranged attacks will do. TP = Technic Potency. Increases the damage TECHNICs do? DFP = Defensive Power. Decreases the amount of damage you take. EVP = Evasion Power. Decreases the chance of you getting hit. MST = Mental Strength. Increases the damage TECHNICs do? STA = Status Abnormality Resistance. Decreases chance of Status Changes. PP = Photon Points. These power TECHNICs as well as special moves for weapons. Each weapon has it's own set of PP, and they can all be recharged using a Photon Charger or by finding a stationary Photon Recharging Unit (name I made up for 'em, anyone know the "official" one?) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Item Types | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Weapons: ---------- - Melee weapons range from the simple (One Handed Saber, Dagger etc...) to the Huge (Two-Handed Sword, Spears), and the creative (Knuckles, Claws). - Ranged weapons are pretty much what you would expect. Handguns, Machineguns, Rifles, Shotguns, Bows, and anything in-between. - Staves are the same, they all look different, but do the same thing: house the TECHNICs you will use in battle. There are one-handed wands and long staves. You can have a handgun with one-handers, while long staves take up both slots in the palette. Armor: ------- - Armor is pretty much the same wherever you go, the only difference is the type of slots that the armor has. There are four slots: Head, Arm, Body and Extra. Each slot can have a type of Unit added to it that will increase various statistics. Items: ------- - Items range from recovery items (-Mate family, Star Atomizer), PP Recovery (Photon Charger), Party Revival (Moon Atomizer/Moon Atomizer X), and Status Recovery (Sol Atomizer). You can also consider Grinders in this series as well (more on those later), as well as Mines. Clothes: ---------- - Each character has a set of clothes on. In the case of Ethan, at first he has an entire set of clothes that he customized, but he can later choose from normal clothes like any other character. Clothes consist of a Shirt Type, Pants Type, and Shoes. Boards: ---------- - Each item has a specific board (as in like..."motherboard" or such) which you must give to your Partner Machine in order to synthesize said item. Each board contains the "recipe" of ingredients you need to do so. Ingredients: ------------- - Instead of finding Weapons and Armor all over the place like you used to in PSO, you find ingredients (though you can still find Weapons and Armor in PSU, just very rarely). Ingredients can be used by your Partner Machine to Synthesis new Weapons, Armor, and other things. In order to Synth an item, you have to put Ingredients needed into your PM's storage system. Discs: ------- - These are what you use to learn Photon Arts. Typically these are bought at a store, but these can also be received from party members after completing a Mission with a rank of S. I don't think I've found any out on the field, either. One can only have 36 Photon Arts learned at a time, and if you go to learn 36, I believe you are prompted to delete an old one (though I haven't tried this myself yet). Etc: ----- - There are other various items you can get in the game as well. Room Decorations can be bought at the store in the Guardian Colony, and then up to 3 can be placed in your room. Decorations can also be receieved as a prize for completing missions fast/well enough. Discs are used to learn different skills for various weapons, you can buy them from shops or receive them from party members as prizes for missions as well. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Classes | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Here are the classes you can choose from in Extra, and eventually Story Mode. Note that any weapon not in the "Weapons" part is a type of weapon that class is unable to use (IE. bows are not under Weapons for Hunters, as Hunters cannot use them). Hunter: -------- Weapons: Two-Handed Swords (S), Knuckles (S), Spears (S), Dual Sabers (S), Twin Sabers (S), Twin Daggers (S), Twin Claws (S), Sabers (S), Daggers (S), Claws (S), Rifles (C), Shotguns (C), Dual Handguns (C), Handguns (B), Machineguns (B), and Staves (B). Strengths: Hunter is a great overall class, and good for beginners. It is also a decent tank, since they typically wind up with high HP, ATP and DFP. They can use any melee weapon in the game. You can also use some basic Ranged weapons and Staves, so you don't ALWAYS have to be the tank, but you will end up using those less and less as you get higher ranked melee weapons. Weaknesses: If you want to be ranged or use TECHNICs while dealing out major melee damage, sucks to be you. Very limited use of Ranged weapons and Staves. ATA also suffers, but I've never really seen much of a problem with that. Ranger: ------- Weapons: Two-Handed Swords (B), Spears (B), Sabers (B), Daggers (B), Rifles (S), Shotguns (S), Two-Handed Bows (S), Laser Cannons (S), Dual Handguns (S), Handguns (S), Crossbows (S), Machineguns (S), and Staves (B) Strengths: Great overall ranged character, while you can still use some melee and staff weapons. ATA is the highest out of any class, as is STA and EVP. So if you plan on being a Ranger, stock up on some good long- ranged weapons, and try not to get hit. Weaknesses: Severly dropped HP, ATP, DFP, and even TP and MST. So plan on bringing lots of healing items, hitting enemies more, and taking more damage. Very limited use of Melee and Staves. Force: ------- Weapons: Sabers (B), Daggers (B), Two-Handed Bows (B), Handguns (B), Machineguns (B), Long Staves (S), and Staves (S). Strengths: Major major damage with TECHNICs! Plan on getting bunches of Staves, and putting your favorite spells within them. This class doesn't have much to choose from in types of weapons, but you have TONs of spells to choose from. Highest TP and MST, 2nd Highest EVP. Weaknesses: HP is a very big issue with Forces, as you have very little of it. Also has the lowest ATP, ATA, DFP, and STA in the game. This means you're going to be a ranged fighter, carry some Bows with your Staves just in case, bring many melee fighters in a party, and find a good set of TECHNICs to use for each situation you'll encounter. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Controls | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Left Stick = Move Character Left Stick Button = Only used in Online Mode Right Stick = Control Camera Right Stick Button = First Person Mode D-Pad = Select Weapons/Items in the Palettes. X Button = Basic Attack (Melee), Basic/Enhanced Attack (Ranged), TECHNIC (Staves), Use (Tools). Y Button = Special Technique (Melee), No Use (Ranged), TECHNIC (Staves) B Button = Bring up the Palette (Missions Only) A Button = Confirm, Action Button. Start Button = Menu Triggers = Cycle through menu screens. Left Bumper = Lock On (Melee Weapons), Strafe. Move Upwards in the Item Palette. Right Bumper = Hold to switch weapons in current selection (Weapon Combinations) or switch TECHNIC sets (Staves). (Note: This is set that you have to hold the bumper for it to take effect. I STRONGLY advise that you switch the option from "Hold" to "Click"). Move Upwards in the Weapon Palette. Left Trigger = Move Downward in the Item Palette. Right Trigger = Move Downward in the Weapon Palette. X-360 Guide Button = Duh. Most useful for Custom Soundtracks during boring Missions. ^_^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Basic Mechanics | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ = The Palettes: ---------------- - Basically, these will be your biggest friend during battle. You can set up to 6 Weapon combinations in the Action Palette at one time. Each slot has two sections, left and right. One-handed Melee Weapons and One-Handed Staves take up the right side, while Handguns take up the left side. Two-Handed Weapons (Two-Handed Swords, Spears, Shotguns, Rifles, Long Staves, etc) take up both sections. In order to switch between each slot, hold the B button and use the D-Pad to move between them. - You may have noticed a Palette to the left of the Action Palette. This is the Tool Palette, where you can put items and other things to be accessed easily. You'll use this for healing items, and tools like your Photon Eraser and Photon Reflector, among other things. - In order to set an item into either Palette, go into your item menu by hitting start, and moving over to items. Hit A, then scroll to whichever weapon or item you wish to add, and hit A again. Select "Add to palette", and choose which slot you wish to add the item or weapon to. In terms of two weapons in a slot, you have to do this for both weapons. You can have between 6-12 weapons equipped at any time (6 two- section weapons, 12 one section weapons, or a combination of both). You can have 6 items/tools in the Tool Palette as well. - You may want to master using the Triggers and Bumpers to go through the Palettes instead of the D-Pad. This makes you able to run through missions while using Palettes instead of having to stand still. This technique will help you shave precious seconds off of your mission times! = Photon Arts: -------------- - Photon Arts are a godsend. These are special techniques that you can apply to a weapon to either give you a new move (Melee), spell, or just add an element to the weapon (Ranged). In order to use Photon Arts, you must gain the disc which contains them. These can be bought from shops, or you can get them from party members after completing a mission, but only if you got a perfect score (1,000 Points). Each weapon type has it's own set of Photon Arts, so if you use multiple weapons often, I suggest you buy a disc or two for each. Be warned though, each character can only have 36 Photon Arts at a time. I don't know if there is a way to delete old ones or not, as I have not reached the maximum yet. You automatically start off with Rising Strike for Sabers though, so technically you can only get 35 more Photon Arts. Once you get a particular Photon Art to Level 11, you can combo it with itself (use it twice in a row, with no lag, and with different moves for more damage). Some PA's can be used three times in a row if you level it high enough. The maximum level for any PA is Level 30. = Classes: ---------- - Back in PSO (Phantasy Star Online, duh) once you picked a class, you were stuck with it. Well, no longer! If you get tired of being whatever class you are, all you have to do is go to the GUARDIANs Office at the Colony, on the 5th Floor. Go behind the desk and talk to the girl there, and she will change your class, for a fee, of course. You can also level classes by successfully completing missions, and like leveling your character, your stats increase with each class level. However, those stats only apply for that class. Stats you increase by leveling are permanent. In order to level up your Class, you must complete Missions and get Mission Points (MP...hmmm?). = Missions: ----------- - There are two types of missions. Main Missions (Story-Mode and Online Mode only) and Free Missions (all modes). Within each mission you are given a goal: Destroy this monster, Escort this person, Make sure this person doesn't die, Reach this point in a stage, etc. Depending on how many monsters you killed, how long it took you to complete the task set to you, and (when applicable) how many times certain party members died, you will get a Mission Score. 1,000 points is the maximum score and gives you a ranking of "S". If you get an S Ranking (on a scale from F to S, I assume) you get more Meseta and Mission Points than you would normally, and you will also get an item of some sort (a decent weapon or a room decoration, usually), and you have a chance of learning a technique from a party member (I assume this is only applicable in Story and Extra Mode). Doing Missions is the only way to level up your class, as you need Mission Points to do so. Check your Vision Phone in order to see which Free Missions are available in all modes. = Parties: ---------- - In Story and Extra Mode, parties can consist of up to 4 people (including yourself). In Online Mode, they can be up to 6 people. Parties make doing Missions alot easier, depending on who you pick to go with you. This also enables you to get Photon Arts from various party members when you get perfect scores on a Mission. In order to invite a person to your team, you need to get their Partner Card. In Extra Mode you can only invite people whose Partner Cards you get in Story Mode (and some people, like Karen and Mirei cannot be invited). = My Room: ---------- - In all modes you get a personal room, which contains a Partner Machine (named "Pete" in Story Mode), a Save Crystal, 3 spots to put up Room Decorations, a clothes changing room, bed, and a Vision Phone. A Partner Machine reminds me a bit of MAGs from PSO, except they cannot be equipped. They provide you with storage, and can also Synthesize weapons, armors, and items for you. Once you feed them enough items (just like MAGs) and they get to Level 40, they become able to do missions with you (this is of course different from MAGs). Depending on what you feed them, they will become a different type, winding up having a different attitude in battle and using different weapons. I have no experience in this field as of yet, but I will experiment with it soon and add a section dedicated to it. = Synthesizing: --------------- - In order to make items through Synthesis, you need to find Item Boards that contain the recipe to make the item you wish to Synthesize. For Example: [B] Double Saber contains the recipe for a Double Saber. You must insert the board into your Partner Machine, and then check to see if you have the necessary ingredients to make it. If you do, you must put the ingredients into storage, then attempt to make it. Each item has it's own success rate, depending on the level of your Partner Machine. In most cases, once you have the Partner Machine to make the item, you will have to choose "Take Out Item" to see if it was a success or not. By Synthesizing, you can get powerful items you may never see in a store, or make items alot cheaper. You can also customize certain items to your liking. For Example, the Double Saber calls for a Photon type ingredient, but doesn't specify which one. You can change the element of the Double Saber depending on which Photon you use to make it (Ban-photons for example, will give a weapon Fire properties). Very useful for certain situations when you need a weapon with an element. = Store Types: ------------- - Instead of having just one type of shop, there are many types: GRM, Tenora Works, Yohmei Corp, and others. This means that a Saber style weapon you get from each company will be different in looks, stats, and price. This also means that you cannot have your weapon grinded anywhere, you have to take it to the shop where you got it from. GRM stores are on the Parum, Tenora Works is on Moatoob, and Yohmei Corp is on Neudaiz, and the Guardians Colony handles anything else. = Grinding: ----------- - Grinding is a bit different in PSU than in PSO. Before, you had to find Grinders of various types to upgrade your weapons, and they were very rare. Now, you can buy them at shops, but you can no longer upgrade your weapons on your own, you have to take them to a Weapon Upgrade shop. As I said above, you cannot upgrade your weapon at just any shop, you have to take it to a shop that handles the brand of weapon you have. Also, grinding is no longer a definite issue: your weapons can break when you have them grinded. The maximum level of any weapon is 10 grinds, and the first two will almost always work. I recommend you at least get those first two upgrades, and if you really want more I suggest that you save before you try to grind a weapon you really like. If the item breaks, log out and try again. From my experience it seems that if you get a +5 Grinder, there is no chance of breaking the item you are Grinding (this is of course only in Story/Extra Mode where your luck doesn't change based on the day, and other factors). - Well, I think that's enough for this section, but if you have any questions you think I should add to this section, email me and let me know what you think. [=====================================================================] * Story Mode [SM] * [=====================================================================] *************************WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS!********************** - Intro (same in every Chapter) - Cutscene. Ethan answers a call from Lumia about getting off work. Ethan hops on his hoverboard, does a few tricks, and then gets knocked onto his arse when he is hit by a car. A priest from the COH gets out, asks Ethan if he's okay. He complains of a leg injury. The Divine Maiden gets out, notices the injury, and heals him. Ethan seems to be impressed by the TECHNIC she used, as if he's never seen one. The priest notes that they'll be late for "the ceremony", and they leave. Ethan realizes that he's late too. - Second Intro (same in every Chapter, the PSU themesong plays). ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Chapter 1: Of Light and Darkness | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ *Clyez City 1st Floor; Central Table* - Cutscene. Lumia and Ethan meet up. Ethan hops off his hoverboard. We find out that Lumia is Ethan's little sister. She complains that they're late and need to find a good seat before they're taken. Finally, you get to control Ethan. See the controls section above, if you haven't already. You have to now take Ethan and Lumia to the 'Lunar Line', a train of sorts, so they can get to the ceremony. From where you are, go to the elevators, directly across from the fountain in front of you. You'll recognize it as being between to the two large upward ramps. When you get close, a box will appear that says "Elevator". This happens whenever you're going to another area, as a way of letting you know where you're headed. Go to the fourth floor (you can't choose any other floors just yet, this is the intro). *Clyez City 4th Floor: PPT Station* Once on the fourth floor, Lumia directs you to the upper righthand corner, where the station for the Lunar Line is. Go there. *Linear Line Platform* - Cutscene. Ethan and Lumia run into a thief who steals Lumia's Meseta Card. Ethan chases after him. The thief hops on the Linear Line and gets away. Ethan hops on his hoverboard and gives chase. The thief gets off, happy that he got away. Ethan chases behind him. You regain control. Talk to the people around you to ask them if they saw a suspicious-looking guy. Head around the area until you find the only door NOT locked (locked doors are red, unlocked are green). Go through it. *Access Corridor: Block A-1* A girl in red nearby will say that the shady man passed through recently. Go through the unlocked door ahead of you. - Cutscene. Ethan catches the thief. Ethan is introduced to two more thieves. They try to intrimidate Ethan, introducing themselves as the Vol Brothers. The brother with an afro goes to hit Ethan, and Ethan dodges and counters. Lumia gets onto the scene, and the big dopey brother kidnaps her. - Next cutscene. The other two pound on Ethan, one of them having Ethan in a full nelson. Ethan gets out of it, and rescues Lumia. The afro brother pulls out a Photon Knife. Someone interrupts, a male Beast. The Vol Brothers announce that he is a GUARDIAN, and run away. The Guardian says that he isn't surprised, most thieves don't have the guts for a real fight. Ethan says he could've handled them himself. The Guardian calls him a tough guy, and Ethan asks if he wants to find out about it. Lumia drags him off, saying they'll be late for the ceremony. - Third cutscene. The Divine Maiden is scene on the big screen. Lumia explains who she is. Everyone in the crowd chants "Maiden! Divine Maiden!". The maiden says something about the holy light, and warmth. Then a view from planets is shown, the maiden is having a vision! It shows a ship getting hit with a laser, and exploding! Many more follow. She maiden says everyone should leave. Lumia drags Ethan away. The guardian is seen trying to calm everyone down, directing them where to go. Ethan runs into him. Ethan ignores the guardian's orders, going the opposite direction than what he suggests. Ethan says something like "Why do you guardians think you can boss everyone around?". Lumia apologizes and then runs after him. You regain control. Go through the unlocked door in front of you. *Linear Line Platform* Go back to where the train was. - Cutscene. Ethan notes everyone's been evacuated. Lumia notes the rubble blocking a path. Rubble starts to fall near Lumia, and she says she is too scared to move. Ethan hits the deck as rubble separates the two siblings. Lumia is unhurt, but Ethan needs to get to his sister now. Ethan says he will find help, and that she should stay put. You regain control again. Ethan notes in a thought bubble that his hoverboard got busted. Walk BACK the same way you went before, through the green door. Follow the path around the rubble and through the next green door. *Access Corridor: Block B-1* - More rubble falls. Ethan worries about Lumia. Move around the rubble, through the next green door. You'll see the guardian again. - Cutscene. The guardian says he's too busy to chat, but Ethan tells him the situation. The guardian says he'll call headquarters. Headquarters says they'll dispatch help. Ethan thanks him. Leo (he calls himself that during the transmision to HQ) notes that Ethan's bravado is gone. Ethan asks what's wrong about believing in himself, Leo says you can't do everything by yourself, and if he doesn't learn that, it'll harm him in the future. More rubble falls, and a pod lands in front of them. It opens, and a monster comes out. Leo is whipped by it, and falls to the ground injured. Ethan takes his handgun, dodges a few whips, and shoots the creature until it falls over. Ethan checks on Leo, who says he is paralyzed. Leo says that his sister might be in trouble, gives him his weapons, and orders Ethan to protect his sister. Leo formally introduces himself to Ethan as Leogini Santosa Berafort, Ethan reciprocates. Leo is surprised by his last name, Waber. Ethan asks about it, and Leo avoids the subject. Leo gives Ethan the com terminal, so they can stay in contact. * You receive Guardians Equipment* Finally, your first set of equipment! The game automatically sets everything up for you. Review my controls section if you haven't, and change the option for Weapon/TECHNIC Swap to "Click" instead of "Hold". You'll thank me later. Firstly, you'll notice that unlike PSO, you no longer have to get the specific timing right in order to do a combo attack. This is quite useful (I didn't realize this until a few chapters into the game, heh heh). You'll also notice in the lower left hand corner of the screen you have two attacks: X (Normal Attack) and Y (Special Attack, or in this case, Rising Strike). You'll also notice Two Icons (In this case, a Saber and Handgun) next to a Bar. This bar is your PP Meter, telling you how much energy you have to perform Photon Arts. Each weapon has it's own amount of PP. Melee weapons (such as your Saber) do not require PP to use Normal Attacks, however, Ranged weapons use PP with each shot. Plus, Ranged weapons cannot have two attacks, they can use the normal attack (nothing equipped to the weapon) or a special bullet (with a Photon Art equipped). TECHNIC weapons are basically the same, but unlike PSO they do not have a physical attack, they are only used to perform TECHNICs. Read more about these subjects in their specific areas. For now, move on. Go towards the green door. You'll see your first save point, and get the popup for it. Save your game, if you wish. *Access Corridor: Block B-2* Follow your mini-map (upper right hand corner, if you didn't notice) to the next door. Leo chimes in to tell you to follow the passage, and that it shouldn't be much farther to get to the next platform. Ethan questions Leo about the enemies around him. This is your first real fight, have fun. You shouldn't take too much damage, but if you do, you have five Monomates in the Item Palette. *New Enemy: Pannon LV 1, Dark Element, EXP 4* Notice that sometimes an enemy will drop items, duh. Green items are Synth Ingredients, read about those in their appropriate section. After you kill the 5 Pannons in this room, go and break the boxes. You may find items, you may not. I got one Monomate. Head through the next door. *New Enemy: Delsaban LV 1, Dark Element, EXP 8* There should be on Delsaban and two Pannons. Kill them. You'll get a message from Leo about emergency supplies. Fetch. No matter what, the first box on the right will contain a Sword. You'll get it in a semi- cinematic (Cinematic that doesn't require a loading screen). Leo tells you about the Sword. Throw it in the Action Palette (you can read what I have to say about it above, or the game shows you too). Now would be a good time to decide what type of character you want to be. If you want to be a Hunter character, perhaps now would be the time to decide your primary weapon. If you like dealing heavy damage, use the Sword. If you like fast attacks with a bit less damage, use the Saber. If you want to be a Ranger, you should probably use the Saber and Handgun, not just the Handgun exclusively (your PP would run out QUITE quickly if you used just the Handgun). If you want to be a Force, you're pretty much out of luck. Use the Saber/Handgun combo for now. After you're done with this, head back to the path you were on, and through the next door. This room has a Delsaban and two Pannons, kill them and you should level up. Next room. Two Delsabans. Use Rising Strike to knock one or more of them down, then take them out. Open the boxes nearby and hope for some items, I got two Monomates. Move forward and kill the three Pannons that appear. Break the boxes. I'm going to stop saying what I got here, because everything that drops is random. However, at the end of each chapter I wll go through Stats and Items I have. Also, from here on I'm going to assume that you know what I'm talking about when I say "Next room" and such. I will only go into detail about movements when necessary. Three more Delsabans, kill them. Leo tells you about Monomates, and a tutorial about the Tools Palette shows up. *Access Corridor: Block C-1* - Semi-cutscene. Two of the Vol brothers ask Ethan to help find the eldest brother, Hiru. The middle brother introduces himself as No Vol (the guy with black hair), and the youngest is Do (the Beast that looks like a Dog). *No and Do join your Party. No is LVL 3, Do is LVL 2* A Save Sphere is up ahead, use it if you want. Next to the Save Sphere is a Healing Square. Stand next to that in order to recover any injuries you and your party may have sustained. Next room. 2 Delsabans and 3 Pannons are in here. Kill them and continue on. Do note that since you have a party now, they will actively try to kill enemies for you. Don't let them if at all possible. If they kill an enemy without you getting a hit, you get no experience. If you hit an enemy, and they wind up finishing it off, you only get a portion of the experience. You only get full experience for killing an enemy if you finish it off yourself. This can be used the other way though, if you let party members attack enemies for you and finish them off, you get full experience. I don't advise you do that, though, because it is hard to tell when an enemy will die, especially if you have never encountered it before. Anyway, you encounter your first locked door here. Note the terminal next to it. You have to find the correct amount and type of Info Keys and bring them to the terminal, and then use the keys, to unlock each door. *New Enemy: Sendillian, LVL 1, Dark Element, EXP 8* *New Enemy: Pannon, LVL 2, Dark Element, EXP 5 From here on, I will not guide you. You will need to figure out the paths on your own, you're a big guy/girl, you can do it. I will provide information about enemies, and information about quests. Reason for this being, after you get information about Info Keys, your first Trial will start. You are being timed on how long it takes you to get back to the Linear Line Platform. If you do well enough you will get an S rank. In order to get an S rank, you typically have to kill EVERY enemy in a mission, and get a pretty short time. So, in order for me to get a good time, hopefully getting an S rank, I will not be able to stop and take note of everything. In fact, the first time I did this mission during writing this guide, I screwed up and forgot to kill a few monsters. Just note that in order to get an S rank, you will have to explore everywhere, kill everything, and do so in a short time! For the sake of time, during Trials I tend to skip opening boxes, as doing so takes up a large amount of time. Also, certain missions require you to keep party members alive, so try to make sure your party members don't get killed. Keep in mind that I will put up the stats each time I run through a Trial if I screw it up the first time. This will give you a better idea of what you have to do to get an S ranking. Good luck. When you get to the Linear Line Platform, the Vol brothers are reunited. Results, Run 1: ---------- Time: 6:33, 700 Points (Max) Enemies: 53, 230. Total: 920. Rank: A Meseta Rewarded: ? Mission Points: 0 Items: ? Results, Run 2: ---------- Time: 7:50, 700 Points (Max) Enemies: 67, 300 Points (Max). Total: 1000. Rank: S Meseta Rewarded: 300 Mission Points: 0 Items: Trimate Well, now you get to learn to use the Goggles. Use them to find out which parts of the Debris can be damaged, and use it to do so. You eventually learn about Ethan's past. His father was killed during a Guardian mission, while trying to save someone's life. This explains his hatred towards Guardians up until now. Also note that Ethan mentions having to live with his Uncle. Who is this Uncle? He's only 16, living on his own, with a 15 year old sister?! Anyways...continue through the rubble, killing enemies along the way. Remeber, you just learned how to use your Goggles, right? Check all the rubble piles, there are some with people underneath who will give you items. *New Enemy: Delsaban LVL 2, Dark Element, EXP 9* *New Enemy: Sendillan LVL 2, Dark Element, EXP 9* Once you make it back to the Linear Line Platform, there is a Save Sphere. Prepare for your first BOSS BATTLE! Stats: -------- Ethan, LVL 4. Max HP 176, PP 85. Starters Equipment plus Sword. *BOSS: SEED-Vance LVL8, Dark Element, EXP 64 * Strategy: Get close, and use Rising Strike. This should knock the creature down so you can get some extra Normal Attacks in, about four each time. Once the creature gets up, use Rising Strike again. Rinse and repeat. Results, Run 1: ---------- Time: 0:32, 1000 Points (Max) Total: 1000. Rank: S Meseta Rewarded: 300 Mission Points: 0 Items: Rising Crush - Cutscene. Leo shows up and congratulates Ethan, also apologising for not showing up sooner. Lumia is reuinted with Ethan, and is quite excited. - Cutscene. TV show explaining the SEED invasion. - Cutscene showing Ethan heading towards Guardian HQ. - Outro (Basically same each Chapter, shows characters met and important in the chapter while a song is playing). - Next Chapter Promo Cutscene. Note: After you finish the game the first time, there is a small conversation instead of the Next Chapter cutscene. I was astonished to learn this myself. No one had ever said anything about it. I would imagine they're all going to be funny, or at least I think they will be, seeing as they're sort of "Blooperish". In this one, Ethan goes on about what happened, talking about Leo, calling him "old man". ^_^ *End of Chapter 1* ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Chapter 2: Typical Lives | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - Cutscene showing Pete and Ethan's first meeting. Pete congratulates Ethan on graduating from Guardian Training School. Ethan names Pete so because GHX-005 is apparently too hard to memorize. =P Pete then tells Ethan that his first field training mission is today, on Parum. He also tells Ethan about Storage. If you talk to Pete a bit more (P Machinery Function -> Talk) you learn about Parum, and how everything on Parum is governed and controlled by CASTs. This knowledge will explain a few things in the future. Once you leave the Barracks, Ethan will say "Off to the Guardian Headquarters". This is your destination, just take the elevator to the fourth floor and then go up the set of stairs. However, you may wish you check out the shops on the second and third floor. Do that first. Here is the basic layout of the second, third, and fourth floors (if anyone wants to make me an ASCII map, I'd love them! ^_^): Second Floor, Left Side: ------------------------ -Elevator -Item Shop (Green symbol, one circle with () around it) -Weapon Shop (Orange symbol, sorta looks like a Shuriken) -Armor Shop (Blue symbol, looks like a shield) -Elevator Second Floor, Right Side: ------------------------- -Elevator -Room Decorations Shop (Yellow symbol, an arrow pointing upwards) -Synthesis Shop (Purple symbol, small circle with points connecting to a bigger circle) -Weapon Upgrades Shop (Yellow/orange symbol, hexagon connected to a rectangle, kinda looks like a wrench) -Elevator Third Floor, Left Side: ----------------------- -Elevator -Club (Online Only) -Space For Rent -Elevator Third Floor, Right Side: ------------------------ -Elevator -Parts Shop (Blue symbol, looks like an M and W on top of eachother) -Clothes Shop (Red symbol, looks like a shirt) -Makeover Shop (Pink symbol, looks like a person) Fourth Floor, Left Side: ------------------------- -Elevator -Planet Parum PPT Gate -Planet Moatoob PPT Gate -Planet Neudaiz PPT Gate -Elevator Fourth Floor, Right Side: -------------------------- -Elevator -Space Dock -PPT Counter (Info) -Linear Line Platform -Elevator Here's the inventory of the Guardian Colony Shops thus far (check the various sections for information, I'm not posting costs or stats here): Item Shop: ---------- -Monomate -Sol Atomizer -Moon Atomizer -Grinder C+1 -Grinder C+2 -Grinder C+3 -Damage Trap -Burn Trap -Freeze Trap Weapon Counter, Weapon Shop: ---------------------------- -Sword -Twin Saber -Twin Dagger -Saber -Dagger -Twin Handgun -Handgun Disc Counter, Weapons Shop: --------------------------- -Tornado Break -Rising Crush -Renkai Buyou-zan -Rising Strike -Shunbu Shouren-zan -Twin Burn -Twin Freeze -Twin Plasma -Burning Hit -Frozen Hit -Plasma Hit Armor Counter, Armor Shop: -------------------------- -Carline -Lightline Unit Counter, Armor Shop: ------------------------- -Car / Power -Car / Hit Room Decoration Shop (Never Changes): ------------------------------------- -Sunflower -Green Light -Pink Light -Refreshing Green -Gold Trophy -Silver Trophy -Cosmo Fountain -Moatoob Sotets -Strange Flower -Purple Flower -Lautus Flower -Mushrooms -Bugeater Cactus -Moatoob Kazla -Rahuli Rahule -Scroll -Refreshing Jelly -Paper Lantern -Touro -Kolbe Trophy -Round Lantern -Blue Light -Photon Star -Gumball Machine -Hourglass -Okiku Doll -G Flyer (Blue) -G Flyer (Orange) Synthesis Shop: ---------------- - Not Open Yet Weapon Upgrade Shop: --------------------- - They do upgrades. Clothing Shop: --------------- - You can't buy anything here yet. Ethan thinks: "I don't have time right now to worry about being fashionable..." Makeover Shop: -------------- - Never opens in Story Mode. If you take the stairs or elevator to the third floor, you run into Lumia. She asks why he hasn't called her (What? Are they dating? =P), he explains it was because of his training. Ethan remarks about her being out by herself, Lumia comments about having gone to the Guardian HQ and asked about him, finding out he moved to the Guardian Barracks. She also remarks about not understanding him wanting to be a Guardian. Ethan explains that even he does not fully understand it yet. He also explains he isn't a full Guardian yet, until he gets his license. Lumia asks if he'll make it, and of course he says he will. Go to the fifth floor, and go towards the counter. Talk to the woman |
