I will put the credit by the information if possible. Information regarding things you must do in order to complete every quest in the game (marked with !!!! in my guide) was gotten through the the Gamefaqs boards and the most complete post I found for this was Sidequests and Locations v1.7 by tidus9605605, In general, I'd like to credit zer83's Rare Monster FAQ. Although no specific information came from that FAQ, I found it very helpful in my overall game play and highly recommend it. I would also like to credit Savior82's Gamefaq board post "The definitive sidequest list". I have not taken any information from the post but I have used it to verify the information I have already gathered. There is a lot on that post that I haven't gotten to yet so I recommend it. ======================================= = Introduction & General Information = ======================================= This is my first attempt at a guide. I would appreciate any constructive criticism or comments. These, along with corrections or additional information can be sent to me by e-mail at mey2bar1@gmail.com I have noted when Quests and Tasks became available to me during the game. When relevant, I have also noted general steps necessary to complete a quest/task. ***Monster strengths*** vary by area and PC level. I have marked down all of the monster information that I obtained up to the time that I completed the task. Remember that encounters may vary depending on when they are attempted. ***Monster spawning*** varies in several areas so if you don't find the monster you are looking for in the area specified, try exiting to the world map and going back into the area. Some combinations of monster spawning did not occur for me until after certain points in the game. I noted these events. It is possible that they were available earlier in the game. ***Collector Tasks*** can usually be fulfilled in a number of different ways. I marked down all the ways that were availabe to me up to the time that I completed the task. More ways may become available later in the game and I will attempt to fill those in when possible. I listed items that were available to me by monster drop. In some cases these drops only occur if your chain count is high or if you fight larger numbers of the monsters at once. Some monster drops only occur when you fight the monster in a specific area. I tried to note this when it was obvious to me. If you are finding a monster is not dropping the item I specified, try fighting larger numbers of them at a time or fighting them in a different area. Some monsters are harder to capture than others. Generally speaking, the the higher the number of monsters in any single battle and the higher your chain count, the more likely it is that you will capture that monster. ***Bloodthirsty Warrior Tasks*** do not need to be completed at the location specified in the Guild Task. I have noted other monster locations that were also available up to the time that I completed the task. More locations may become available later in the game and I will attempt to fill those in when possible. ***Leader Extraordinaire Tasks*** sometimes require certain classes in your party. Any level of the class is acceptable. For example, when a Marauder is required, a Master Marauder will be acceptable. ***Guild Leaders*** become available as the game progresses and as you complete more tasks for the Guild. If you are not finding a leader that I have mentioned, try completing as many tasks as possible. For the more difficult Leader Extaordinaire tasks I will note how many tasks I have completed when a particular leader became available to me. ***Guild Leader Quests*** Some of the Union Leaders at the Guilds have character descriptions. These leaders can be found in the towns that they are recruited in and will occassionally display red dialog bubbles. A few of these leaders will offer you quests if you have recruited them. ========================== = Side Quest Achievement = ========================== One of the hidden achievements for this game is to complete all of the side quests. In order to that I suggest you do all of the Disc 1 quests as soon as they become available because some of the quests are not available later in the game. If I have any further information on when you lose the opportunity to do a quest, I will include it with the quest. There is a section after the quests that shows the order I did the quests along with the main plot events that occured in between. Although your order can vary, if you follow this list, you won't miss any. There are a few other quests with specific requirements in order to fulfill this achievement. Those requirements will be listed with the quest. I've marked them with !!!! so that they are searchable. ======================== = Side Quests - Disc 1 = ======================== ************************ =QAFT= * AFTER A DAY's WORK * ************************ - Location: The Heavenly Terrace / Hendler / Elysion Available after Numor Mines. - To Start: Talk to White Sovani on the second floor. - What To Do: Bring him seeds of the white flower. Obtain them by killing Albic Qsiti in the Catacombs. You need to gather at least three qsiti together to aquire the seeds. If you fight only one or two you will only notice the scent of flowers. You have the opportunity to gather three in the first or last room of the Central Area. There are more than three items, I will list them as I find them. The items are: - Banadanna of Remembrance: The Southwestern Road in the north along the wall. - Letter of Remembrance: The Vale of the Gods, near entrance in the water by the rocks. - Book of Remembrance: Melphina, Cobalt Plaza across from Aunt Shino's Items, on a small side path. - Boots of Remembrance: Blackdale, Somber Ravine in the dead end that has Blackdale Map 3 (thnx A.N.D.Y.) - Belt of Remembrance: Athlum, Town Square behind Comforted Yama,in an alcove to the north. He moves after Nest of Eagles events in the main quest (credit Jean-Philippe Boutin). - Staff of Remembrance: Siebenbur, Fourth Path in the area that becomes available during the quest Disappearing Knights. It is by the door to the Final Fortress. - Sword of Remembrance: The Aqueducts, The Third Channel. To the south by the entrance to East Waterway Control (near the water). - Reward: Stacked Attack (formation); Jorgen becomes available at the Union of the Golden Chalice Guild in Balterossa. His stats differ depending on which items you give him. ********************* =QANC= * THE ANCIENT WAR * ********************* - Location: Café Moondust / Merchant’s Lot / Balterossa - To Start: Talk to the Balterossan Soldier on the first floor. She directs you to go to Balterossa Castle and speak with the chief of staff. When you talk to Chief of Staff at Balterossa Castle, he asks you to defeat the Mantroskylo in Salamander’s Belly. - What To Do: You are immediately sent into the fight so be prepared before you talk to him. Finish them off to keep you from getting flanked when you finally engage the Mantrosklo. The enemy can deal out serious damage to multiple unions with Vulcanbreath which he does every other turn. If one of your unions keeps him engaged, the other unions can break off Deadlock to heal without getting engaged in Raidlock. - Reward: 20000G ******************** =QAHE= * AT HATRED'S END * ******************** - Location: The Babbling Brook / Cobalt Plaza / Melphina - To Start: Talk to Ophelia Available after The Reviving Legend and only if you agreed with Ophelia at the end of all three of Roberto’s quests. - What To Do: She wants you to help her get Nordis and Azelle in Numor Mines. She will meet you there. In the Great Tunnel, go into the first room on your right and take the elevator down to Large-Scale Mining Zone. In this area, go right at the first intersection. Follow the path to the elevator on your left. Take it down and at the next intersection go right. Follow the main path until you see Ophelia. When you get close to her you will engage in a boss fight. - NORDIS - [ ] ------------ Items: + 5500G Attacks: + Mystic Missile V + Double Time V + Wind Shear V HP: +/- 100000 HP - HYPNOS - [Darkfiend] ------------ Items: + Large Bone + Darkfiend Talon + Thick Beast Hide + Split: - Darkfiend Rawhide - Darkfiend Bone - Platter Fragment - Vase Fragment Attacks: + Spinning Lariat III (Area of Effect) + Attack sometimes causes “Blacked Out”. Not available after Disc 1 - What To Do: Give her 500G and she’ll give you some potions she made (see Reward). - Reward: Fresh Oil x3 (consumable), Aerial Insecta Ale x3 (consumable) ************* =QBAU= * BAULSON * ************* - Location: Warrior’s Honor / Virtus Parish / Athlum - To Start: Talk to Baulson Available after quest completion: A Day’s Beginning. - What To Do: Meet Baulson in the Gaslin Caves where the son of an aristocrat disappeared. He joins you as a guest union. Continue to the end of Hypnotic Hollow (right fork) for a boss fight. - BANDIT LEADER - [ ] ------------------- Items: + Attacks: + HP: Value: - Reward: 500G; Baulson becomes available at the Union of the Golden Chalice Guild in Athlum. *********************************** =QBLO= * BLOOMING FLOWER, SINGING BIRD * *********************************** - Location: Café Moondust / Merchant’s Lot / Balterossa - To Start: Talk to Hannah on the second floor Available after Numor Mines - What To Do: Rescue Hinnah from Mojcado Castle. In Mojcado Castle go to the Oath Section straight to the North. The mini-boss fight takes place in the Circular Room in the center but to get to it you have to circle around to the east. - LANDWORM II - [Land Insecta] ----------------- Items: + Beast Carapace + Land Insecta Talon + Landworm Carapace (RARE) + Spiny Landworm Leg (RARE) Attacks: + Squash + Lay Out HP: 1700 HP each Value: 90G After the fight, Hinnah refuses to leave without her lost item. A treasure point appears next to her containing the Mojcado Key. This key opens the four locked doors in Mojcado Castle. Go to the locked door on the western side of the map to go to the Phoenix Section. Specifically, head out of the room, follow the passage past the left turn-off. When you get to the intersection, turn left. Take your first right and your next left. Follow that passage straight to the locked door to the Phoenix Section. Move through the rooms. There is only one room with multiple exits. Take the exit at the far end of the room rather than the exit across from where you enter. Continue through to the final room where you will find a treasure point containing a Tarnished Earring (there is also a Treasure Chest and an Excavation Point in this room) Bring it back to Hinnah. - Tips: Counteroffensive formation is effective against Land Insecta - Reward: 2000G; Aes Salia (special item); Snowflake (special item) ************************* =QBRA= * BRAVERY AND LOYALTY * ************************* - Location: Warrior’s Honor / Virtus Parish / Athlum - To Start: Talk to Emma. Available after Emma joins your party before heading to Elysion for the Congress Meeting. !!!! You must do this quest before advancing the main plot too far or it will go away so it is best to do it as soon as it appears. - What To Do: A giant monster is spotted at Robelia Ruins. You are asked to join Emma in the fight. When you go to the ruins, a ladder to the Passageway Tier is revealed. From this area, directly to the east, is a starway down to a previously inaccessible area in the Central Tier. A room around to the south has the boss fight. - BLACKWING - [Archfiend] --------------- Items: + Split: - Archfiend Talon - Archfiend Bone - Archfiend Rawhide Attacks: + Curse + Artsap (reduce AP to 0) + Manawell + Attack causes Acid Burn HP: Value: 2240G - THIRD COMMITTEE COMBAT SQUAD - [ ] ---------------------------------- Items: + Attacks: + Hammerspin (Multi-strike) HP: Value: - Tips: The Blackwing is one of those enemies that will cast Curse on every union that engages it in the first turn so it is probably best to keep all unions except one on Standby for the first turn. - Reward: 1500G; Mano Salia (special Item) ********************* =QBRO= * THE BROKEN SEAL * ********************* - Location: The Babbling Brook / Cobalt Plaza / Melphina - To Start: Talk to Knight of Melphina. He directs you to go to the Palace of Melphina and speak with Commander Roberto of the Order of Melphina. At the Palace of Melphina, speak with Roberto - What To Do: Find the broken seals. They are recognized by a pale brownish smoke. The quest starts you at the southeastern exit on the map. 1. After the third combat there are some cut scenes. Eventually you will reach a screen "(Looks like they want me to say somthing ...)" with two dialog options. You must pick the second (lower) option in order to obtain a future quest. - Reward: Azure Orb (special item - gives Rush access to Mystic Arts: Evocations) ************************ =QCEL= * CELAPALEIS'S WITCH * ************************ - Location: Grants Way / Celapaleis - To Start: Talk to Mage-Like Girl Available after quest completion: Athlum’s Witch. !!!! Not available after Disc 1 - What To Do: Give her 1000G and she’ll give you some special Khrnia-brand herbs (see Reward). - Reward: Cureleaf x7 (consumable); Relaxing Herb x7 (consumable) *********************** =QCOS= * THE COSMOS MAIDEN * *********************** - Location: Pub Drachenhauch / Nordenaim / Nagapur - To Start: Talk to Kosmosfest Staff on the second floor. Availalbe after the meeting at Nagapur. - What To Do: He asks you to escort the Cosmos Maiden from Crookfen to Nagapur. Cross Croofen to the far east wall. Sheryl is standing there. Talk to her. She asks you to take her to Nagapur and joins you as a guest Union. To complete the quest you must exit back to the west where you came in. - Tips: Look around after Sheryl joins your group. Before I talked to her there were only Oarfish in the area, but afterwards there was a rare monster nearby. - Reward: Javelin (weapon); 5000G ************ =QDAR= * DARIEN * ************ - Location: Heavenly Terrace / Hendler / Elysion - To Start: Approach the Melodramatic Qsiti on the second floor. Available after Nest of Eagles - What To Do: He tells you to bring him the famous holy chalice from his hometown. Go to Cobalt Plaza / Melphina and talk to people in the following order: Festival Head, standing near Aunt Shino's Items. Talk to him twice. Salesgirl by Silvia's Components. Goster in the pathway across from Sivlia's Components, twice. Goster's Wife by The Babbling Brook, twice. Goster in the pathway across from Sivlia's Components, twice. Bino, by the Union of the Golden Chalice. Festival Head, near Aunt Shino's Items. Now head back to Darien for your reward. - Reward: 25G; Darien becomes available at the Union of the Golden Chalice Guild in Athlum. *********************** =QDAY= * A DAY'S BEGINNING * *********************** - Location: Warrior’s Honor / Virtus Parish / Athlum - To Start: Talk to Mysterious Woman Available after Dillmoor. - What To Do: Deliver a letter to the entrance of Robelia Ruins. The recipient is in the entrance room of the Central Tier in Robelia Ruins. - Reward: 100G ****************************** =QDIS= * THE DISAPPEARING KNIGHTS * ****************************** - Location: The Babbling Brook / Cobalt Plaza / Melphina - To Start: Talk to Knight of Melphina. Available after quest completion: THe Broken Seals & also after Nest of Eagles, He directs you to go to the Palace of Melphina and speak with Commander Roberto of the Order of Melphina. At the Palace of Melphina, speak with Roberto after the cut scene. - What To Do: He wants you to accompany him to Siebenbur to look for the lost knights. In Siebenbur, take a right at the first fork and open the door with the Mossy Key. A short way in, up the stairs there is a cut scene. Don't forget to grab the area map at the treasure chest here. A short way past the teleporter is a mini-boss fight. He gives you Royotian Wine (special item) to bring to Rainn in Cafe Moondust / Merchant's Lot / Balterossa (on the second floor). Rainn wants you to get the Ring of Morning Calm from Alyssa in Grentze Commune / Baaluk. She's standing near the western exit. Alyssa offers you the Ring of Morning Calm (special item) for 10000G. Bring it back to Rainn and trade it for the Ancient Scabbard (special item). If you reject his first offer he will also offer you a Tuck (weapon). He directs you to bring the scabbard to Beauson in Genaade District / Elysion. He is down the ramp in the southwest corner. Beauson will trade you information for an item. Which item you trade can affect what you get for a reward. You can trade for the scabbard or for the Royotian Wine or for some Royotian Ore if you continue to refuse his offers. He tells you he traded with a woman, giving her a treasure map. Go back to Alyssa. She tells you she threw the map away somewhere in the area. You can find it up the stairs near the Union of the Golden Chalice. At this point you can return to Raphus to get your reward (if you gave Beauson the scabbard see Reward 1, if you gave him the Wine, see Reward 2), but if you do you will miss out on some items. Instead, bring the map back to Beauson and he will give you the Irised Stone (special item). When you bring the stone back to Alyssa she gives you the Ring of Morning Calm as a usable accessory. Now return to Raphus. If you traded Beauson the scabbard you will receive Reward 3. If you traded the wine you will receive Reward 4. This quest becomes available to you before you collect all nine of the shards from Into The Abyss, but if you do the quest early you will not get the weapon, shield and accessory. - What To Do: Priam asks you if you are ready to return to the Flame Guardian. Say yes and talk to the Guardian. If you have the shards you are given Vespe (weapon), Takshend (shield) and Manrynell (accessory).
